This should be different than the street racing we've become accustomed to around here. I just hope these cars can outrun the gunfire in Chicago. NASCAR must be trying to win back some of the viewers they’ve lost to Formula1.

quote:

For the first time ever, the sights, sounds and speed of NASCAR are coming to the streets of downtown Chicago on July 1-2, 2023. One of the most iconic cities in the world, Chicago will add another chapter to its illustrious sports history when a NASCAR Cup Series street race debuts against the backdrop of Lake Michigan and Grant Park, televised on NBC.

“Like the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, we seized an incredible opportunity to add an unprecedented element to our schedule and take center stage in the heart of another major metropolitan market,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR senior vice president of racing development and strategy. “This is the ideal setting for the first-ever NASCAR Cup Series street race. The NASCAR Cup Series Next Gen cars and the IMSA machines will race along the shores of Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago, marking a truly historic moment for our sport. We are very appreciative of Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her team, along with the entire city of Chicago for working with us to make this concept a reality.”

I'd go to that if I'm still living here. That's a great area of the city and the party would be fun.

Are these those suped up hyuandais with NOS systems? That would be cool AF to watch especially if it were at night and they had those running lights along the bottom like on Fast and Furious Tokyo drift.

It's too bad Dodge pulled out of NASCAR, otherwise the Chargers in the race would have quite the fan appeal here.

A street race seems cool until you see it’s just another street circuit with 90 degree point and squirt corners. Stock cars look slow and lumbering on this type of track.

The new independent rear ends and rear transaxle will help but the HP to weight ratio will make the sports cars a much better spectacle.

I'll only watch if they have no traffic control whatsoever. I've always loved a good demolition derby.

And this street race is replacing a proper road course race 2.5 hours north at Road America.

Shitshow
