I had a nephew lose more than $1,000 from his bank (debit) account.

My wife served on a jury where they caught a group with debit/cc replication equipment in their car.

Be careful. A credit card for the most part only holds you liable for $50.00, a debit card, good luck.

What? My cards have zero fraud liability. Get better cards.

yep.

had this happen on a bit larger scale.

between the time i stopped for gas at racetrac in p'ville

and lunch time they had taken $18k out $500 at a time.

luckily the bank was able to stop it and i didn't actually lose any money.

False. AMEX will refund any and all fraudulent purchases.

Nah, any decent bank can and will refund fraudulent debit purchases.

Same with any decent credit card.

Ask me how I know.

You know what is better than that?

Cash. I don't pay an extra fee. Ever.

Skimmers have been out there for awhile now. There's a reason why there are anti-tampering stickers on gas pumps.

Holy frick. What kind of shitty fraud alert system does your credit card have?

I couldn't do that with my own card without getting a fraud alert.

My wife had $3000 worth of flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia charged to her debit card 5 years ago. I was expecting the Feds to show up at anytime. Her bank refunded the purchase.

Anti-tampering stickers. Please enlighten me.

What are you talking about? I'm not talking about political stickers.

my niece is a fool and refuses to get credit card because debit is easier for her. she says all they can get is whats in her account which isnt much she keeps in it but still

im done trying and i cant get her to understand that credit cards are better

she sees a debit card as a way to control her spending but i tell her she is just lying to herself and needs to grow up

Next time you fill up, look carefully at the pump. You will see some long stickers about 1/2 inch wide and maybe 6 inches long. They are placed in such a manner they they cover the gaps in the face plate of the pump. If they are broken/torn or they are missing then someone has tampered with the pump and you could be the chump.

Yet another reason why anyone with an ounce of self control should always use a credit card.

The orange sticker on the left is an anti-tampering sticker. If it is broken, don't use it. This means someone opened the door who wasn't supposed to.

Fraudsters open gas pumps and put their skimmers where you insert your credit card. Their skimmers read the information on the card. They take this information, purchase prepaid cards, and basically make a copy of the card they skimmed.

Where do you have to even swipe a card anymore? Virtual cards on my phone work almost everywhere. I hate having to dig my wallet out.
