A/C repair help

So on Friday Night a lightning strike caused my home a/c to malfunction. It wouldn’t turn on. Last night a guy came out and fixed it, said the transformer was blown. It blew cool all night, problem is, now it won’t stop blowing. I turned the thermostats off, turned the breakers off, and it’s still blowing cool. Any suggestions?

its blowing with the breakers pulled?

sounds like he didn't fix it. probably bypassed something to get it working

Your AC guy bypassed your service box and tied directly into the grid. Good news is the electric company won't be able to monitor your electricity usage.

AC working with no electricity? sounds like a win.

If it’s running without the breaker on, enjoy that shite.
If that’s the case, it shouldn’t be showing it’s pulling power for your electricity bill.

Something similar happened to mine. Lightning fried circuit board on outside unit. Circuit boards will likely go first in a lightning strike, not sure all ACs have them. Mines carrier infinity.
Just reread that your breakers are off. Are you sure you're not just turning off a subpanel? If your main breaker is off then just open a window If you get cold.

Not sure what type of system you have, but if its an HVAC, just go unplug the heat exchange/blower and it will stop.

Thermostat is prob fried. Pull the thermostat off the wall and disconnect. If it shut off go get another one from Walmart and install.

I mean this sounds good in theory (to get free AC), but the reality is that the unit will probably never cut off and freeze up, leaving him right back where he started.
OP, have you tried using the HVAC disconnect box outside at the actual unit?

How would by passing a breaker in your home by pass your meter?

You didn't pull the correct breaker. Go outside, there is a breaker by the compressor. Pull that one. It sounds like the contacts welded themselves together. It can happen if you have voltage spikes. They get hot and melt together.

I have no idea but it would be pretty obvious if he did. His electric company will let him know in short order. They can detect that sort of stuff with the newer meters.

Yep, sounds right. It was after 10pm on Sunday night when he finally came, and I think he was trying to get it done and go home and had no intention of putting a new circuit board. I unplugged the unit and it stopped. He said that was the only way to turn it off. He’s supposed to come back tomorrow morning to fix it correctly; we’ll see.
My modem and cable boxes were all fried as well as my washing machine circuit boards, TV HDMI ports, outlets in garage were all blown out. Son’s monitor won’t work. I’ve gotta file an insurance claim for all the crap that’s ruined.

Sounds like he bypassed the low voltage stat wires. The contactor is now magnetized to the on position. Nothing to do with the grid.

He said he bypassed the zone board (or something like that)
