Depends on how I’m feeling that day. Some days it’s a cooler and some days it’s an ice chest.

Either way stop sitting on it so I can get stuff out.

North and east of Hattiesburg it’s a Cooler apparently. If you told me to look in the ice chest I’d probably be confused after several..

I recall this topic arising in a linguistics class. I-10 is the generally accepted (and approximate) cooler/ ice chest line of demarcation within the Southeast U.S.

Growing up I called it a cooler, but have switched to team ice cheat since moving to Louisiana.

Cooler. Never heard of an ice chest until I read it on this board. Ice chest sounds like something people in the 1950s would call it.

Apparently Alabama, GA and South Carolina are now "the north"

Can confirm. I grew up in North Mississippi. I never heard anyone use the term “ice chest.”

negative. only people in Louisiana (mostly) say ice chest. Do a Google trends search for “ice chest” and tell me what you see. Case closed.

Ice chest . Advertising usually says ice chest cooler I think. Cooler is more for ice and liquid w/ pour spout. Ice chest has a drain plug.
