50, North Alabama cooler. Never heard someone call it an ice chest in real life.

I feel like I use these terms interchangeably. Really thinking about it, I know I used them both...I feel like I probably use "cooler" more often, though.

I think yankee migration into the sunbelt might have something to do with the rise of "cooler." Always said Ice chest growing up. And, of course, PawPaw called the thing in the kitchen an ice box.

I definitely say both, but thinking about it, I don't know the rationale. Maybe I call hard ones ice chests and soft ones coolers.

Only people who grew up in South Louisiana and maybe Mississippi call it an ice chest.

Seems like a Louisiana/Miss thing

Growing up in GA I don't think I ever heard "ice chest", nor when in school in AL.
