These strange looking beasts are wild in South Texas. They look huge and while I was in their area I only saw a few from a very long way off. They run like a horse! Check out this cool pic of one the Ranch sent me. Horns like a cow, beard like a Turkey and huge size. Any one tagged one before?

What are the popular calibers for them? Would a 308 work well?

Yes, many times on the king ranch. .35 Whelen is my preference.

I’ve killed them with 308 but would recommend 300 magnums or better!

They tough. Very good eyesight!

We have a lot of them at my place.

^^^^^ This pic my buddy is 270lbs and he shot it with a .375 H&H in the shoulder then shot it in the spine running away. Damn thing was still crawling with it’s front legs and he shot it in the neck patch to kill it.

My buddy had one show up on his game cam in Eagle Lake a few years ago. That isn’t south Texas for sure.

Hunted them many times across from the king ranch and hunted there a few times. Great eating too. I’ll probably head down this fall with my dad and brother
