re: Green jeans tried to fine me after I reported a deer that was poached

As someone else said, most of them are there to collect revenue and collect a pension. It's sad but true. I know some great LEOs but I know a large amount of them don't care. I had a LEO come into Bowie when I worked there and was asking me about new proposed gun control laws. I was telling him "well, they can pass what they want but good cops just won't enforce any of it". And he said "well we have to listen to our superiors, we have families and mouths to feed". I was pissed.

Not sure about down in LA.
If you are on private property and do not have written permission you can be ticketed, or if you can get landowner or their (for the non binary)agent on phone. No sign needed

Jury nullification in this country is bad enough as it is.

I hate to say it because it really shouldn't be like this but........ Never ever never invite green jeans onto your property. They have become irresponsible in their enforcement techniques the last couple of decades.

What do you expect them to say? To be fair to LEO, I think there's a big difference between stopping current crime, crime prevention, and investigating minor past offenses.
There's A LOT of game laws that are pretty minor in the grand scheme of things, but when that neighbors dog won't stop running through your property mid deer season its a pretty big deal to you.

Remember what you are asking for here. They will kill people to take guns if it comes to feeding their family. The standard for enforcement should be "does this hurt anybody or infringe on someone else's rights". That is it.

Moral of the story...Don't ever report anything to green jeans. It's an invitation for them to snoop around and write tickets.

never call anyone who works for any kind of governmental agency unless its a life and death situation

Not a requirement in Louisiana. As mentioned before the land does not have to be posted.
However, within R.S. 14:63 Criminal trespass it states:
" J. Although not required by this Section, notice that entrance upon any structure, watercraft, movable, or immovable property owned by another is prohibited may be indicated by either of the following:
(1) A sign or signs posted on or in the property at a place or places where such sign or signs may be reasonably expected to be seen.
(2) The placement of identifying purple paint marks on the trees or posts on the property, provided that such marks are:
(a) Vertical lines of not less than eight inches in length and not less than one inch in width.
(b) Placed so that the bottom of the mark is not less than three feet from the ground nor more than five feet from the ground.
(c) Placed at locations that are readily visible to any person approaching the property and no more than one hundred feet apart on forest land, as defined in R.S. 3:3622, or one thousand feet apart on land other than forest land."
Also, no one the age of 10 or under can be arrested or detained for trespass.

Crazy that one has to do this. What if one owns 500 acres? Supposed to walk that perimeter every few months to check for signs? Shoot that's $250 of signs!
I also would not invite greenjeans anywhere near my property. For every productive and kind one, there are twenty of them that have an ax to grind and nothing to do. It's like reminding the teacher that they forgot to assign you homework. Fly under that radar unless you have a serious problem.

in the immediate aftermath of Katrina, they took guns from law abiding citizens that were defending their homes and their lives.

the lie is that they care about and are there to protect the resources.
they have one job only, to collect revenue and give out as many tickets as they can any time they can.
i called to report poachers running illegal gill nets in lafourche and they were only questioning me about where i was and what i was doing rather then asking anything about the illegal netters so i just told them they have all the info i can provide about the outlaws they seemed to not care about and i hung up.
another time i called about finding at least a dozen dead pelicans washed up on shore in one spot and it was very odd. but once again, every question was all about me and what i was doing, rather then about the birds and the area they could be found.
they are not your friends, and never will be, do nothing to intentionally go anywhere near them, and for damn sure never call them for anything.

The point is that they ultimately do what their bosses tell them to do. That part when they're sworn in where they vow to defend the Constitution is complete bullshite.
Their job is to enforce the whims of whatever politician or unelected bureaucrat is over them. That's it.

It’s interesting that in between your boot licking you admit that they aren’t there to enforce all of the laws. Just the ones they choose.

Any idea why purple?
It's true no markings or signs are needed, as they used to be, but it will help your case. But usually, the DA has "bigger fish to fry."

My guess is that I have seen surveyors use white, yellow and an orange/red but I have never seen purple in the woods.
In the grand tradition of bad drafting of Louisiana code and statues, it is a weird tacked on addition to a statue, were no signage or marking is required, that it lists possible signage and marking that you might use. And don't even try to figure out why non-forested land would only be marked every 1,000 feet.
Edit to add: A little google research shows that about 15 states have adopted that color for "no trespassing". Seems to have started in Arkansas.
