Eh... not sure about this statement.

You can be not sure about it all you want, but it’s an absolute fact

Yea walkers numbers were ridiculous but look at the difference in bats. These bats are much much more deadened
ETA: Walker not having to face the quality of pitching Crews has is probably a bigger factor than the bats.

I was a young teen when Todd Walker played for LSU and we split season tickets with a family member. Watching LSU baseball in the nineties at the Box was awesome but especially if you were a young kid who loved playing baseball.
I mean the guy hit with an avg. over .400 as a Freshman. By the time he left LSU he was the SEC All Time Leader in Hits, Runs Scored and I think RBI’s too.

Blake Dean and Matt Clarke are the best I’ve ever seen. Different era than the BBCOR era, but they’re the closest I’ve ever seen to the greats who played under Skip.

Hard to argue with these numbers,
quote:also hit 52 home runs. He didn't play in the gorilla ball era, the bats might have been a little better but they weren't the same ones that LSU used to hit 188 homeruns in 97'.
Walker, a two-time First Team All-American who hit .396 in college, left Baton Rouge after three seasons as the SEC's all-time leader in hits (310), runs (234), RBI (246) and total bases (557).

Yep, understand the era. IMO it doesn’t take away from Walker at all.

Walker & Furniss are the Tiger GOATs as far as I’m concerned.
I felt like I was watching Dimaggio or Ted Williams with Walker. He was enigmatic.

Albert Joey Belle would like a word. Saw him hit one on top of Memorial Gym at Vandy.

Let’s hope he cements his place in history w a national championship!

I don't think it is a "joke" that he will have one more year. DC knew what he was doing and what he signed up for. Maybe a poor choice of words but, MLB isn't going anywhere and he could go down as one of the greatest college players ever. Need to get to Omaha and he can cement his legacy.

Walker is #1 in my book.

Lucky enough to see him play in Alex Box and Fenway Park. Great Player.

The bats were actually deadening twice from the Walker era to now. I rathered watching Walker but the bat situation definitely added to the enjoyment of the game. I’m thinking Cruz would’ve been a monster with those bats.

You're comparing all-time great talents 25+ years apart so no criticism intended.
Walker was better for avg period and more pop than one might expect but no way does he have Crews power.
Walker had a very fluid but big swing that caught up to him in MLB. Crews' is more compact and will transition better to MLB.
Comparable speed but we don't run as much with JJ. I think Crews is better fielding but they play different positions.

I watched Todd play. Dylan is just as talented with probably more power.
The difference is Todd had huge hits in regionals and in Omaha.

Both great players but crews is a better hit for power guy I’d say.. imagine crews with an aluminum bat!
