Got it. I mean I would get some of these things from Entergy in Louisiana but they were rare….these from ercot are coming into my inbox every hot weekend with a high above 95.

you people act like they can fix the grid in a year or two, you have to study and plan for years, find an area, go through the clusterfrick of regulation, then it takes multiple years to design and construct a new combined cycle power plant

Agree and disagree. The state/ federal (for NERC) bodies could do more to remove barriers like permitting, etc to expedite things. But yeah, GE and Siemens don’t have gas turbines sitting on the shelf.

Exactly. Thats a sign it’s probably systemic…problem with NG supply or grid management

This whole thought process that Texas is turning blue is nonsense. Not gonna happen. Never gonna happen. Keep dreaming. Find something else to hate about Texas.
It’s all a political agenda to get people talking and over thinking. Nothing is wrong with the power grid. Don’t believe it.

FIFY. Politics is 100% the reason for the problems Texas is having and it will get a lot worse. ERCOT only tries to manage best they can within the regulations that are placed on them.

I wonder when/if the DOE and ERCOT will realize that the renewable push is completely fricking up the grid and they had better have a come to Jesus realization that killing the on demand sources (coal, natural gas, nuclear) is crippling the US grid.
The grid continues to be be taxed more and more and they stray further and further away from reliable megawatt sources. Anytime logic is replaced by political pandering influences, nothing ever goes right.

Its still outage season. So plants tend to be trippy because they aren't up to speed. Plus ERCOT push some scheduled maintenance so proper fixes haven't been completed.
Also, ERCOT is extra sensitive these days.

While Texas does have its own power grid and is theoretically independent with the majority of Texas being supplied by the regional transmission organization ERCOT, Texas also has plants in the SPP RTO and has DC cross ties between the Eastern Interconnection and Western Interconnection through DC ties to SPP.
So while Texas can be mostly power supply independent, it does have back up capabilities and those back up ties kept ERCOT from going into the black during the major ice storms in January and February of 2021.

I’ve lived in Texas for clues to a decade now and the ice storm in 21 is literally the only time the power has so much as blinked.

I'm not in Texas, but I know a little (very little) about this. From what I understand, these are loads that pull from the system, correct? Are they factories, or what exactly?
