"six power generation facilities". Is this 6 wind turbines, 6 solar fields, 6 peaker plants, or 6 baseload plants. Is it across the whole state of Texas? Is it 0.0001% of total production, or 99%. ERCOT is being more conservative than usual. As stated earlier, it is still outage season. One big nothing burger

Apparently Texas voted to go back to the it’s golden age the 1880s.

Why is this a bad thing?

Now let's all run out and buy electric vehicles and really bog the grid down while we're charging our vehicles. The infrastructure can handle it, right?

Are they factories, or what exactly?

In simple terms:
Build a warehouse
Buy thousands of pc ( servers)
Link them
Buy the latest mining software
Plug them in
Turn them on
Keep the warehouse cool

They have it down to knowing how much money per pc …per day …will kick out… so the main thing is to keep it running and electricity cost down… texas is trying to get ( we actually have a few already) crypto mining company with promise of dependable and cost effective power…

Some like places like Finland are desirable because a cool ambient environment and they build their own hydroelectric sources
Other use natural gas ( thus the texas draw)
I think shell is putting in some and using casing head gas … not positive .. but instead of flaring it….
It is more complicated because Bitcoin supply decreases as mined and software get outdated fast.. but the general workflow….

I really don’t think it’s a big issue . After the Mega Freeze, ERCOT warns people if too many birds are on a power line these days .

It’s usually just containers full of servers. I just did some finance work on one for Nexterra that should be going up soon. It’s going to take a bunch of production from their wind farm.

I wish I got that solar setup like i've been planning to build.

If you have the space or a favorable roof it’s a great setup. We have an off grid capable system at my wife’s ranch in west Texas. It’s nice to not have to worry about an ice storm knocking out the line. Last year it was grid isolated for 3 weeks at one point while we waited to get the feed line fixed after pipeline crew fricked it up.

It certainly is a result of greenie weenie policies and trying to move to those weak butt systems. So, your troll fails.

Damn, KK. If I'd have known it didn't live up to your standards, I would have tried harder.

Are you under the assumption that the average Republican politician is immune from the lunatic rantings of the mental-teenager Progressive sky screamers?

They try to play nice and “placate”. They pander to the leftist extremists by trying not to offend. They waste time and money on wind and solar. They speak of lowering carbon emissions and all the while actual reliability of the energy grid erodes and fails to keep up with population growth.

The “‘science’ is clear”, all right! THERE IS NO LOOMIN CLIMATE DISASTER, but there is an ongoing threat to rational energy policy.

Brownouts will cause deaths. Money wasted on wind farms instead of nuclear and natural gas will cause suffering.

Well we do have a bunch of windmills in north and west Texas. Do we have the wind?
I don't know what its doing up there, but on the upper coast the wind started blowing 15-20 mph out of the south in late February and hasn't let up since.

I was chasing some shallow water reds along what I thought would be a protected south shoreline this week and still had to contend with white caps.
