I agree.
Keep in your glove box a local city map. And state maps of neighboring states.
At home keep a Rand McNally road atlas.
GPS apps don't provide a good overview. They are useful for where you are now.
People who disagree never been anywhere.

I should have clarified. I don’t give a shite if the map is on the phone. There’s no need for an atlas
Screenshot some stuff so if you hit a dead zone or whatever, you still know where you’re going. It’s not that hard to know the names of towns and follow some road signs.

Bruh you live in Atlanta and you don't use nav on commute
I assume you don't live too far from the office or you're on a reverse that never snarls or something

I can't tell you how many hours of my life I have saved using Waze to navigate through BR or even here in Little Rock because there is a wreck that you have no idea about that is adding 45 mins to your commute.
Not to mention warning me about speed traps/police locations.

Our facility where I work is 14 miles from downtown. Its a straight road, no turns and the internet coverage is spotty.
Most people under 30 who drive here for the first time wouldn't make it without their phone app. They're clueless as to the real world.

Exactly what I was wondering.

This is why my cartographer, who goes by “map guy” comes in handy.

Just basic directions would be helpful.

Route-based, where you know the path? ie, go to this, then turn left then go to this then turn left again
This is my directional approach. I typically don't think about what is North, West, or whatever from something else.

You do realize you can zoom out, right?

Whenever we go somewhere new and I put the address in I automatically zoom out (or go to the list) to know the turns. Also always want to know the exit numbers before getting on the interstate/highways.
And as others pointed out, I will use the shite out of my GPS on a regular basis just to see traffic patterns; especially with 3 different routes from home/work that will get me there within 5 minutes w/ no traffic. Now, whether or not I actually pay attention to it before getting stuck in traffic is an entirely different story

I remember going on trips with an atlas. People are stupid.

It's a good idea to know how to read a map just in case, but if I have a choice between a map and gps, I'm going gps every time

The Sun rises in the East and sets in the West. It stays in the Southern sky. What more do you need?

Yes. It's hardly useful. Very little detail.
Good for maybe 10 miles. shite for 100 miles.
