I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our education, like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should—our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq, and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our children.

Thank you.

the idea that most people can't read a map is more scary.

People are dumb, and will become dumber by choice if the way chosen is easier than the alternative.

I do insurance and real estate inspections. I run a Garmin and Google Maps on my phone. Experienced to know that the Police is the last place you want to go for directions. Post Office is useless as hell. Fire Department and City Hall in small towns the most informed. I have the owner's names and phone numbers. I've noticed a recent change in one Alabama County where there will be a street name and CR number as the address, Maps are useless. They are out of date the moment they are printed and I deal with addresses that are added daily. Called one owner ...he laughed ...."The street name is my last name and I made the address up." "Ha Ha, now tell me how to get there."

Lmao, any boob can read a map. It's not some advanced skill that the rubes have long forgotten.

Maybe tell your "lady" to keep a charger in her car. They even make chargers that work with that thing your lady uses to light her Virginia Slims.

this is why people are becoming dumber.

"Who needs math when we have computers."

The inability to read a map is one of the dumbest things I have ever witnessed. Its like these people take pride in stupidity and ignorance.

It's a good idea to know how to read one. We're a solar flare away from losing GPS.

Imagine what these people would do if they were without total power for two weeks?

No wonder most still live with parents.

1) some of you must not go anywhere besides cities if you think maps aren’t useful. Lots of places out west or even just in Texas without great cell phone reception.
2) yes. A map would have helped in her situation (just drive to the next crossroads and then find that spot in the map).
3) she should also keep a cell phone charger for safety reasons.
