Senate Bill 1401, the “College Athlete Race and Gender Equity Act,” passed the Judiciary committee on Tuesday and is headed to Appropriations. As law, it would create a revenue-sharing arrangement between athletic departments at California universities and the athletes in their money-making sports.
What in hell are they thinking ?

Democrats are communist. Communists do Communist things.

Apparently, that they want even more of their best athletes to come to the SEC.
They can make and keep their money here. Or make money and share it with a transgender badminton player if they stay in California

Swear y’all don’t know what that means.
They opened up a free market system for the athletes. The athletes are entitled to whatever an individual/business deems is worth their partnership for marketing purposes.
This new bill is indeed socialist though. But don’t act like y’all aren’t crying for a salary cap or for the annihilating of the NIL.

I'd be fine if they paid the US 100 billion a year to be their own country and keep their nonsense to themselves.

I mean you trying to say the athletes don’t deserve that?

I'm pretty sure Florida had the first NIL state laws. The thing that made NIL inevitable was the Supreme Court Ruling.

That is a state's prerogative. I think it is stupid, but it is their choice. Not sure how that will fly with the NCAA or what they will be able to do about it if they don't like it.

if only there was this league that paid you to participate in sports professionally. Now that would be badass
You could always not play college and go to the pros, but that will never happen bc the colleges are giving you a free education while giving you a platform to convince others you are worthy to be paid millions of fricking dollars to play a sport. Do interns demand to be paid more bc they are working for a highly profitable company? Dues are paid in every field in the entire world.

revenue-sharing
What revenue? I doubt there is a profitable athletic department in the whole state.

Crazy to think y’all are against letting these players profit any off their own names…. The amount of money they generate for the school and NCAA as a whole and you think they shouldn’t even be able to get paid for endorsing a product loool

you know the whole slippery slope...this went to complete shite in a handbasket instantly. Just like everyone with half a fricking brain knew it would. You are either a amateur or you are not

No problem with athletes making money off of their NIL, but ...

NOPE!
Like you said, It's socialist/redistribution, and an argument could be made that since the institutions are public, communist. The only thing that keeps it from being so is that the athletes who would make a lot of NIL money will obviously choose to get the hell outta Cali!!!

Whole lot of young Black males are about to get introduced to equality in California and they are probably not going to like it as much as they have been told they would by white liberal elite..

To be fair, NIL's existence is the exact opposite of communism.

Y'all do know that that proposal does NOT mean athletes will share their NIL money. It means that athletic departments will share their money with all their athletes equally. I heard this discussed in a PAC 12 podcast. It's a bad idea, IMO.

Hard to see how this would affect USC & Stanford since they are private schools.
