Wow, maybe they should rename the bill since women's sports don't make money. Do the girls owe them money when they graduate? LOL

I never said the player play NO part in generating revenue.

To be fair, you were replying to a post that said:

The players don't generate any revenue.

..to which you replied “this is correct.”
quote:

Of course, the school needs to field a team, and the better the team, the more revenue generated. That requires players.

And the reason revenues may be down in a bad year is that everyone loves a winner. Simple as that.

Right. So is it fair to say that players do have value to the extent that:
A) the team’s success leads to increased revenue, and
B) the player contributes to the team’s success?

To put it another way, here’s a thought experiment:

Imagine that the NCAA lifts all of the amateurism rules, and every university is allowed to pay players directly. Imagine that despite the new rules, LSU decides not to pay our players anything beyond the scholarships and stipends they are currently receiving.

Now let a handful of recruiting cycles go by, and imagine how that decision not to pay our players affects the team’s performance. What does that do to athletic revenue (relative to our peers) - including tickets, merchandise, TV money, bowl money, etc. - over a longer period of time?

If you think LSU’s athletic revenue would stay about the same (again, relative to our peers), then it’s probably fair to say the players don’t have much value.

OTOH if you think the team’s performance would drop, and that the accumulation of poor performance would lead to loss of revenue (or comparably less revenue increase than other teams, considering the way TV contracts have been skyrocketing) then it’s pretty clear that the players do have value to the school beyond what they are currently receiving.

I read that to say to that Commifornia schools would have coaches compensation capped at 50% of the average coaches salary for power 5 coaches? Wow.

They also have a provison in that lovely statute that caps Commifornia college coaches salaries at 50% of the average salary of a power 5 coach. So, not only do you live in the most expensive state in the country, with the highest state tax rate in the country, now they want to cap coaches pay. Unreal.

This NIL thing is going to result in tax problems for lots of poorly advised kids.

It’s going to ruin lives. Two out of every 100 colllege players get drafted. Average NFL career is a little over three years.

Giving these kids a taste of financial security through football and then it not panning out for 99% of them is a terrible thing for the sport. A kids goal should be a free college education and graduating without the apparently unbearable burden of student debt.

revenue-sharing arrangement between athletic departments at California universities and the athletes in their money-making sports.

Does not compute

And another example how socialists have removed the word equality and replaced it with equity because everyone should receive the same monetary benefit, regardless of merit. Having equal access and opportunity isn’t good enough

The vast majority of the top coaches' income isn't from base salary, but from endorsements, appearance fees, media fees and success bonuses. I suspect that, like most things in California, appearance here is more important than reality.
