Longtime Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is showing clear signs of cognitive decline, according to a new report, leaving her colleagues in Congress scrambling for ways to persuade her to retire before her term expires in 2024.

quote:

“I have worked with her for a long time and long enough to know what she was like just a few years ago: always in command, always in charge, on top of details, basically couldn’t resist a conversation where she was driving some bill or some idea,” the lawmaker said. “All of that is gone. She was an intellectual and political force not that long ago, and that’s why my encounter with her was so jarring. Because there was just no trace of that.”

The Chronicle report, which cited four of Feinstein’s Senate colleagues and three former staffers as well as the House member, indicated that the 88-year-old’s memory is rapidly deteriorating and her staff does much of her work.

quote:

The senator defended her performance in a statement shared with the Chronicle as well as The Post, saying: “The last year has been extremely painful and distracting for me, flying back and forth to visit my dying husband who passed just a few weeks ago. But there’s no question I’m still serving and delivering for the people of California, and I’ll put my record up against anyone’s.

20 years ago a history prof at LSU-S told me we should elect more women to Congress because they are more moderate instead of left/right.
Me: 'Name a female moderate in Congress right now.'
Him: 'Diane Feinstein.'

Its a shame that she'll just be replaced by a younger, more radically progressive version of herself.

Shame on her for not stepping down- a long time ago. Shame on her! She could have spent more time with her husband, children and grandchildren during the end of her husband’s life and during the last few years of her own full cognitive abilities, and she chose to serve “The Party” instead. She definitely isn’t serving the people of California whom she is supposed to be representing. Shame on her. She’s getting what she deserves just like Biden.

You hate to see it. Not being sarcastic. At the end, if you live long enough, everything is stripped away. Thinking that could be my fate horrifies me.

Think I found the problem. Everywhere else people are working their butts off to try and retire by the time they are 60. Only politicians cling on to their jobs for life

Pretty much every individual in Washington over the age of 70 is unfit to serve at this point.

Doesn’t matter. As long as they can train her to push the correct button it’s all good.

Question

Do you think it's wrong it's said politicians "serve" ? To me the term serve implies that said politician has made a sacrifice to help or assist others.

Most of these people are like pigs at a trough. They are "serving" no one but themselves.

Most Dems are in a dead heat for dementia. They hope to use her to deflect attention from Brandon.

That says a lot considering she had a Chinese spy in her inner daily routine. Dems didn't fear that would be a reason to not be fit to serve.

I just don’t get these people man. Without looking it up, I’m sure she’s worth millions. She’s damn near a hundred. Go retire and enjoy the last couple years you have left with family. I know it would never happen, but there really should be something that forbids you from running for any office after say 65-70. Maybe not 65, but when a person gets in their 70’’s, things can go downhill fast.
