None allowed at my house.

It shows in their grades.

And the scholarship offers.

I was a straight A NHS student, played multiple sports, and went to college on a full paid scholarship. I loved playing video games in my free time, as did my friends. We all turned out alright.

I dropped them, too, because it was such a time sink. Most of my friends play them all the time. I don't see how they can just sit there all the time. All the guys in my office start playing when they get home and stop when they get sleepy. Then they complain about all the things that need to be done around the house, or things broken, or wives complaining. Uh, yeah man.

But i wouldn't stop kids from totally playing video games. I would stop them from doing any tech while eating.

in general...grown man should not be playing video games. the exception is maybe an hour or 2 per week playing a game with your kids or if your wife likes to go to bed early and you have very young kids and you play while laying in bed.

but even then....pretty douche.

We've got a switch with the NES and SNES online play, and one game Zelda.

My son loves Zelda, but we don't play games during the week. On a Friday or Saturday night after games and family time I'm super fine with it.

This board and thread is full of people that spend way more time than that watching a bunch of 18 to 22 year olds tackle each other over a fricking ball during a week
If not that, then replace it with another hobby that you burn time on. End result is the same.

We didn’t allow it until 7th/8th grade. We conditioned it on achieving certain grades, participation in sports, and performing their chores. Once we purchased it, we only allowed certain games (sports) and not “shooting/killing” type games until they were older. Also kept the other requirements in place and put a time limit on the play time. Worked well balancing it this way.

i have three young sons and i like to stay in shape and lift so....yea i dont have time to really watch tv nor play video games except for some on saturdays.

for example this is our schedule this week

Monday- track meet and baseball game for oldest, pitching lessons and team practice with middle kid

Tuesday- tball game

Wednesday- tball game, baseball practice for middle kid, birthday party for oldest

Thursday- track practice and baseball for oldest, pitching lessons for middle

Friday- tball

Saturday- middle kid plays in Lafayette all weekend. Oldest has last track meet of the year and youngest has soccer

Sunday- games in Lafayette

so yea i dont have time for shite. this doesnt even include extra work they may do during the week like lifting themselves, the homework, or me lifting 3-4 times a week.

i still stand by my statement grown man with kids....shouldnt be playing video games unless its with their own kids. but a grown arse man with kids shouldnt be watching a bunch of tv either.

grown man playing video games is a fricking douche and i grew up playing video games until i got married and really until i had kids.

So you have 0 hobbies you spend time on? It's just, wife, kids, gym, and work all week every week? Nothing else?
No sports teams you like?
No books?
No fishing?
No anything else whatsoever?
If so, that sounds fricking miserable if I'm going to be honest My bro has 2 kids, wife, works roughly 50 a week, hits the gym, and still finds some time to play weekly.

Grown men also don’t get on the internet during the work day to tell other men what they should or shouldn’t be doing with their time. You sound like you never matured past the age of 16.

There is nothing inherently wrong with video games. Why disallow your kid something that could bring them joy instead of being an actual adult that instills balance and discipline? It seems insecure.

What do you think is worse? Tigerdroppings or Video Games? I already know your answer.

There are many different types of video games. Many can be educational or at least provide some intellectual benefit. Many include puzzles and problem solving skills.

Kids absolutely play way too much video games. Human interaction and physical activity is always the preferable form of entertainment for children.

But abolishment isn’t the answer.

i have every other friday off and try and go fish or play golf then.

i read books instead of watching tv usually but during the week, well mainly spring time, i dont have a ton of time to do that either

and yea i watch lsu sports and sometimes astros and saints but other things for the kids 100% come first and if i am watching those things...its with them.

yea its pretty much my hobby is lifting weights in a garage gym and doing stuff with my kids and wife.

Based off this thread I get the feeling most grown men on TD still play video games.

i didnt tell anyone what they should or should be doing with their time.....thats their fricking business.....if gaming is what you like...do your thing. ive enjoyed my share of madden, tom clancy games and flight simulators in my day.....personal opinion though is if you are doign it all the time to the detrimine of your marriage and spending time with your kids....yea you are a douche.

i specifically said if a guy that has kids and married wants to play after they all go to bed and he is handling everything else....go ahead.

but dont sit there and act like we dont have a epidemic of frickign douchebags that would rather play video games than spend time with thier wife or kids. because we do.

Are you a homosexual? The way you want to gossip about how other men choose to spend their free time and how they raise their children makes me think you’re gay or are taking estrogen in preparation for your transition.
