I suppose he called it a dead ball then ruled it hit the knob. So has to bring him back to the plate

They're saying time out was called, we think.

Thats a tough one for an ump. Not gonna lie.

Edit: Home plate ump couldnt see where it hit and he called timeout so he kinda screwed himself by the technicality.

Either that’s hit by pitch or an out right? I’m confused

I believe he originally ruled it a dead ball HBP. Once the ball is dead the out can’t count, so when they ruled it hit the knob they had to bring everyone back.

Has nothing to do with time being called, the home plate ump ruled he swung at the pitch and it hit his hand, therefore a dead ball/foul ball.

It’s a foul ball because it hit the know of the bat then his hand I’m assuming. Like if you foul a ball off your foot and it rolls into fair territory it’s still a foul ball.

If it’s a dead ball, it’s an HBP. If it’s not, then it’s a double play. Ump can’t call foul when the ball never goes foul at any point not even in the batters box.

If it hits the bat and then the batter while in the box, that’s a foul. I think that’s how they ultimately worked it out

While we’re talking about inept umpiring, can we touch on the fact that strike 3 to GIO was a ball and farther outside than the one he didn’t give Money last inning?
