Looks like the only Oscars movie I’d be interested in. Can I go in blind? I feel like this is a sequel or long build up type movie.

Yes.

This is a decent Oscars year though. Several of the best picture noms are damn good movies.

No. I’d at least read the wiki intro. Lots of names and things flying around real quickly.

I didn't know anything about it and I'm not a sci-fi/fantasy guy

I really liked it

Knowledge of the book and of the prior movie adaptation certainly influences how you see this movie. I love the book and the prior movie, and I was really looking forward to this movie.

I did enjoy Dune (2021), but I think I might have enjoyed it better without any expectations.

However, this ^ is also true. The novel has tons of storylines with deep histories and lots of characters involved in power plays and intrigue. I wonder how easily someone could get lost in the Dune 2021 movie without prior knowledge.

You should read Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, and Chapterhouse: Dune at least three times each before watching either movie

J/k, you can watch it and enjoy it but would enjoy it more by reading the wiki first, as others have already recommended

You can watch it without knowing anything, I did, and really loved it. It’s a slow start, but it’s so well done. I’d say watch it with subtitles on, so you can pick up on some additional stuff, then watch like a Heavy Spoilers or Screen Crush video where they explain the lore and Easter eggs.

Imagine every other movie you ever watched not based on a book. Apply the same learning strategies and you will be ok. I think the people who say it’s hard to understand watched it at home but didn’t put their phone down.

I'm sorta up in the air on that...

it LOOKS great, and is pretty tightly entertaining just from an action point of view. I think it's enjoyable just from that approach.

But- the actual story is far deeper than the movie. It's ideal to go ahead and read the book, be uncertain on how they can actually pull off some scenes, and then see it- it doesn't let you down visually.

You can, and you'll probably enjoy it. I'm a huge fan of the novels, so all the little nods and Easter eggs to the source material that was put in the movie is what made it great for me.

They did a good job of putting the story together for those who haven't read the book, to where they didn't shake their heads and ask "what the frick am I watching?"

Well, since it only tells half a story... it kind of sucks without knowing more than what is told.

Can someone link this so I don’t stumble upon spoilers?
Just started it last night. Lots of info very quickly.

If you've seen Star Wars, you have all the background you need seeing as Lucas was blatantly ripping it off.

I have never read the books, and I enjoyed the original movie well enough. (yes, the books are always better.)

Wasn’t crazy about it, but it was a solid sci-fi film. I’ve heard much of the same about the new one.

I had the Sting action figure when I was a kid. Other than that, I knew nothing about it and I really enjoyed it.
