To the Kids

quote:

As of March 28, 2022, no student cell phones or ear buds, air pods or bluetooth headphones will be allowed to be in use in classrooms during the school day, for ANY reason.

Cell phones must be on silent and stored inside backpacks. Phones may only be accessed before and after school, while in the hallway during passing periods and at lunch. Also, if a student requests to use the restroom during class, they must show the teacher that their cell phone is not leaving the classroom with them.

Earphones that are wired and plug into the laptop, may be used if needed for course work.

During class, students may NOT use their phones for calculators, to check the time, music, reading a book, checking their grades or for any other reason. If there is a medical reason to use a cell phone, that will be allowed per a 504 or health plan.

Just a few of the issues that have occurred in the last month that initiated MMS administration to make this change:

*Students taking videos and pics of other students in the bathroom, and posting on Snapchat (child pornography)

*Students making audio recordings of test reviews and listening to it while taking a test.

*Students are continually taking out their phones in PE and the locker room.

*Students taking pictures in the classroom of other students without permission and posting to social media.

*Students taking pictures of teachers’ shoes and putting them on Tik-Tok and rating them.

*Students taking pictures and videos of student outfits and rating them on Tik-Tok

The process if a phone is out during class: The teacher will send that student, with their phone, to the office immediately. No second chances. Administrators will call parents to retrieve the phone. It will not be given back to the student.

Thank you for your support,

Beepers were outlawed when I was in school, but that didn’t stop anybody.

So wait, kids have been allowed to have their phones out during class? Is that a common practice?!

I graduated in 05 and we all had phones then, but never thought to have them out during class. That was a no-no.

Any school administrators who didn't see this coming are worthless.

A large portion of our population raises their kids to have no respect for others and to not value their education. The issues listed here are just one result of that

So they didn’t have this policy before?

Nothing worse than getting your phone taken away by the teacher and having to wait until the end of the day to get it back

Hell we also had random drug tests too

They should not have their phones turned on at all until school ends.

What emergent situation does a kid have that needs a phone to solve it?

If there is one - How did all of us go to school without cell phones for a hundred years?

No phones = better social skills.

Kids feel emboldened because their parents embolden them.

I think you can slide by much sneakier with a wireless earbud, Apple Watch, and iPhone than you used to try to text on your razr
