There was a guy a couple years back who did Texas BBQ pop-ups that were really good. I forget his name. He ended up moving to Denver, though.

Alex Barbosa.

The only good BBQ I have had in BR were from pop ups.

Smoking Aces was probably the best before they closed down, but that was years ago.

I heard good things about Memphis Mac and Hannah Q though, don't think either were around before I moved away.

I also don’t think this market would support the pricing. Most people view bbq as a cheap cook.

Especially in Louisiana where people are used to chicken and pork steak BBQ dinners. That’s what I grew up on. Love some BBQ from Dwight’s, Laura’s and that gas station on Kaliste Saloom.

But found out quick moving to Texas that the Central Texas long smoke BBQ is something entirely different. And it’s much more time consuming.

People would have to be educated. I enjoy both styles a whole bunch, but I just know that if I want that Central TX style of low and slow, it’s going to cost more. Especially with brisket prices these days!

Is this the same as the one near Biloxi that was on DDD?

They reopened in Denham Springs - it’s still pretty good.

Hannah Q was good the only time I’ve ever been there. BRQ is okay, just not consistent. VooDoo has its moments as well.

As for the OP, we went to The Shed a few years ago, it was ok. I liked Murky Waters in Gulfport better.

I’ve had plenty bbq from the places in central and south Texas - but if people have to be educated, they will be reluctant.

Yeah. Ftr, I've never been to that location but most of the reviews I've heard over the years have made me reluctant to stop in.

Completely different entity from the old one in BR. Good to hear it's pretty good though, the whole area (as obvious by this thread) is a BBQ wasteland.

How is it a completely different entity? Isn’t it the same name and logo?

Same name, but not at all the same logo. None of the same people are involved... not sure if the name was sold or just not renewed with the SOS.

I would rather eat McDonalds.

This says they reopened

Why are you saying it’s not the same entity? What do you know that we don’t because this link says the restaurant reopened with the same owner.

What the hell are you talking about? The Shed is in Ocean Springs. What suburban dads wearing trucker hats are you talking about?

Brian Medlin didn't originally own Smokin' Aces ... he owned All-Star Catering. Maybe still does?

Sounds like he bought the name, I know he and the owner (Jeff Herman) were friends.

Now it’s even more confusing, lol. Doesn’t matter either way, just curious.

I know for sure that Jeff isn't involved in the Denham Springs iteration. I don't know every twist and turn along the way.

I founded Smokin Aces BBQ. I own all star and still operate it. Sold Smokin Aces and am no longer involved in any way, shape, or form. Jeff and brandon own oak and smoke and do a phenominal job. Watch for these guys to make big moves in the future, They're here for the long haul.

The ones driving through on I-10 to the beach with their kids. That place is 90% minivans and families. And it is awful food. The locals don't bother. I've got family and customers in the area and they do not bother.

On Topic

I think a great BBQ shop would crush it there. My buddies have had that discussion for years now. Good, solid, simple BBQ that's fairly priced and doesn't take all damn day to get served.
