I have an 870 and am looking to make it my turkey gun. I plan to shoot the TSS shot so what choke do y’all recommend I buy? I am new to turkey hunting so all advice would be appreciated.

Primos tight wad. Make sure you shoot a few time to get a feel for the pattern

Patternmaster code black is bad azz. As the above stated make sure you shoot it or any choke so you know how it’s patterned.
Also super tight at 15steps is about the size of a softball

Grabbed one of those in the code black duck version on sale after the season and patterned it and that shite is super tight, I think hunting timber with that would ruin any bird within 15 yards I can just imagine the turkey pattern.

Not being a smartass but it depends on whichever your 870 likes best. I’ve patterned 2 different Benelli 20ga M2’s side by side. One liked an Indian Creek Black Diamond in .555 and the other one liked a Jebs Headhunter in .560 with same load. I’d do a search of the TSS load you plan to shoot and Remington 870 and see what videos are out there and see what they were shooting.

Any of the chokes out there will probably do well. As crazy as it may sound, I’d start with your factory full/extra full as I’ve seen some of those chokes throw great patterns with TSS.

As a side note, it has been my experience with TSS, that the heavier the load, the more open constriction chokes patterns better. For lighter oz loads, a tighter constriction is better.

This is great advice. Also OP, consider the terrain you are hunting. If you are hunting lower area swamp birds you often want a more open choke as your shots will likely be closer. If you are hunting open farmland 50 yard shots are not unheard of and could be common. No choke great at 25 yards will be great at 50, lots of birds missed close in because of too tight a choke. Now don’t over think it, but I’m just pointing out an XXFull is not always best.

Same here. I like a .585 in a 20 gauge and a .665 in 12 gauge. Sometimes if I'm taking children that don't hunt much I'll put a modified in 20 and just limit them to 30 yd shots.

If you’re shooting TSS #9, it doesn’t matter because it patterns tight and it’ll kill way out there. Good stuff.

Go get some shells and shoot your factory full to see what it does. TSS is about $13-14/shell, so if I was just starting out I'd rather see if the choke I had would work and save that money to use on shells. There's a good chance you'll have a good hunting pattern out to 40 yards with your factory choke. If you are deadset on buying something, find a choke with a .665 or bigger constriction (.665 - .680 is what I see a lot). Don't get one of the ultra tight .645-.655 chokes. As someone mentioned earlier, you have ~900 pellets in a 3.5" #9 12 gauge TSS shell. You need something a little more open to let them out without distortion.

I have a couple 12 gauge 870 turkey guns and I have tried a rhino .660, indian creek .665, and jelly head .665. I hunted with the jelly head because it was the least tight of the three. For reference, here is 50 yard pattern with a 3” blend TSS handload.

I shoot a Carlsons TSS choke out of my Rem 1187 20ga. Very happy with it and the federal tss #7 and #9.

In my 20 gauge 870 that I hunt with I have patterned a Jeb’s and a Carlson’s TSS choke. I hunt with the Carlson’t because it isn’t as tight as the jebs.

Indian creek. Sont even waste your time with other chokes. There are plenty that are good and kill turkey. But if you dont wana question it, get indian creek and be done. By far the best

I have no experience with TSS. I shoot the Winchester Long Beard lead shells and would recommend them.

I have a .665 choke. My old turkey 3.5" shells would put about 75 pellets # 6 shot in a 10 inch circle at 40 yards.

The Long Beards [3.5" #6 shot] put 216 pellets in a 10" circle.
