Have You Ever Struggled with Addiction?

I don’t mean just drug and alcohol addiction. Have you or someone close to you ever struggle with any kind of addiction that was detrimental to a healthy life? Other examples would be like cigarettes, overeating, porn, etc.
If you have struggled with anything that has brought you down in the past, how did you overcome it and put it behind you?
Also, I realize some of you may not believe in addiction so much as you believe it is a lack of will-power and stubbornness to change. I feel like addiction, with virtually anything, is scientifically proven to change the brain in different ways, and thus, make it more difficult to stop because of those changes in the different aspects of the brain.

I buy the grizzly cans that are the size of a small UFO now.
I also can't stop watching Tombstone. Nothing has helped so far.

I'm addicted to anything I get involved with, doesn't matter.
It truly is a blessing and a curse.
So yes?!

I reckon I’ve experienced just about any type of habitual behavior besides hard drugs.
It’s neuro-plasticity. Same reason QBs become better with practice reps. You repeat a behavior enough times, especially before your brain fully matures, the more it becomes hardwired.

After my parents and fiancé died, I spent several dark years drinking and was on different antidepressants. Absolutely horrible time in my life.
I started going back to church 6 years ago, and thank God, I haven’t been on a medication or had any alcohol since.
Life can be very challenging and even more so without a support system. Exercising, finding God, and learning healthy self love goes a long way.

My brother was a heroin addict, kicked it through methadone, then replaced the methadone with vodka, and died on my mom's bathroom floor at age 28.

No, I don’t struggle with addiction. I fully embrace it.

I’m addicted to not being addicted. If I find myself craving anything repeatedly, I ease up and sometimes challenge myself to go weeks without it.

Endorphins are powerful and so many things trigger a release, most of them are bad for you.

I have binge eating disorder. I’m still trying to figure it out.

cigarettes and weight issues.
i finally just got pissed off at cigs a bunch of years ago and said that's it, and i did it...people who say you will always crave a cig are wrong..not only do i not crave them, they disgust me.
aging kinda took care of the weight issue somewhat. i'm around 200 lbs now, but was around 265 several years ago..i love good food, and lots of it.

Yes. I went to treatment in October 2021 and just got back from a meeting where I picked up my four month chip. It has and continues to be the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I'm just putting one foot in front of the other and taking it "one day at a time"

Have You Ever Struggled with Addiction?
I have given alcohol a good enough chance to take a regular foothold into my life but fortunately for me, it doesn’t own me.

I tried to struggle with addiction once. Addiction took one look at me and went in for the shoulder-to-shoulder "sister-in-law hug" instead.
