Perhaps, but I hope you aren’t insinuating that the average American car buyer has the means and/or desire to purchase a Tesla. That would be ridiculous.

and there are no more tax breaks on those.
Yes there is, they are not paying the tax per gallon of gasoline. Currently 38.4 cents per gallon in LA. So owning an EV is a tax break by default because you aren’t paying your share of road taxes every ICE vehicle is.

They are mostly status symbols for people right now or those who really want to be early adopters. The cost difference between them and comparable ICE vehicles easily negates any savings on fuel in most cases.

Do you embrace this, or are you going to wait until you are faced with no other option, or when gasoline becomes so scarce that it costs $12 a gallon?
Gas cars are already getting ridiculous. Turbo chargers, auto stop, cylinder deactivation, direct injection etc...all this complexity to eek out fractions of MPG.
I get the infrastructure and range issues, but at the end of the day I think they can theoretically make an electric car that's more reliable than these monstrosities being produced now.

I don’t really consider this an argument for EV’s, just an argument against over-regulation.
They have already managed to turn the most reliable ICE engine design known to man, the diesel, into a computer controlled rolling emissions plant nightmare that requires continuous maintenance.
Once again, this is the government picking winners and losers due to regulations.

Every EV adoption forecast has been blown away by sales.
quote:In other words, you know that you are wrong so you're hedging.
Once those that truly want them, get them, then that new demand will be satisfied and these surplus EV turds will sit on the lot.
quote:You realize that there are several EV models from multiple manufacturers with months-long wait times for deliveries, right? They're selling faster than they can make them. We can make a long list of discontinued ICE models that lost out to better models, but what would that prove? Absolutely nothing. We would just be ignoring reality.
Turds that come to mind (some hybrid also):
Chevy Volt
Honda cancelling their hybrid Accord due to low sales
Honda Insight (low sales)

I’ll drive ICE cars as long as I can.
Having said that, I think there’s a time when electric cars are practical.
They’re not for road trips but fine for trips to Wally World.

Just give me one vehicle that does it all, all the time. For the next couple of decades ICE power will be it. EV proponents are always using the figure 99% , for 99% of drivers range is not a issue, for 99% of trips charging is not s issue, 99% of vehicle owners don’t keep a car long enough for battery degradation to be an issue. I want that missing 1%, until a EV can do 100% of what my current vehicle will do I see no reason to have one.

No my leftist friend I am not hedging on anything or wrong.

Uh, every vehicle on the planet has months long wait times since the global supply chain is totally fricked.
That is your evidence that the ICE vehicle is headed for the dustbin of history?
Please make a stronger, more intelligent, argument than that if you are able.

I would imagine lots of perfectly sensible things seem like nonsense to you. You have twisted each and every thing I've said into a nonsensical version of it.
Oh come on now, Kork! You’re the one who made the claim that the US spends so much on military spending for the specific purpose of protecting access to global oil supplies. You used that as an argument for EV’s.
I’m simply pointing out that even if your point is true that the US spends so much money on military defense for the purpose of protecting oil trade, that EV’s also require international supplies of material.
Your reply actually agrees with my point.

The OP has this implication that people who are and will continue to use gas powered cars for the foreseeable future are bad people

Why not hybrids? Range limited only by availability of gasoline.

This stuff pisses me off to no end. Mutilating vehicles for these absurd emissions standards…
Anthropogenic CO2 climate change is the greatest lie of our generation.

quote:You ignore the millions of people who live in apartments. I don't know too many landlords who are going to put in charging stations, much less real estate investors who have a bunch of rental houses.
So the trade-off is spend 5 minutes every week at a gas station, or spend 10 seconds every day (1 minute per week) plugging in your EV at home. People act like long charge times are such a hassle, but they ignore the time

I think the majority like and embrace the idea, but it's not even close to wear it needs to be to be forced down our throats.
Posted on 2/6/22 at 9:38 pm to HubbaBubba
Embrace. Sorry dude, it's coming. Suck it up. Teslas are cool as shite.

Aren’t all vehicles battery powered?
