quote:

St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper leads one of the fastest-growing communities in the state -- and that's become a problem for him. Cooper wants the parish council to help slow things down.

Cooper wants to put a hold on new, high density residential development. New subdivisions have been sprouting in St. Tammany and Cooper says it's moving too fast.

"We've been experiencing high growth and the infrastructure's not keeping up with that," he said.

quote:

Cooper wants the council to agree to a moratorium on any development that places more than one unit per acre. The council should take it up next month, with public debate to follow.

It’s growing in direct proportion to how fast New Orleans is collapsing. So yes.

At least they are recognizing that the infrastructure can’t keep up with demand from more and more people and are trying to address that. Wish I could say the same for BR.

Good. We don't need more people over here right now. Nice to see leaders of the community recognize a problem and at least try to address it ahead of time. Would never happen south of the lake.

I saw they sold more swampland along Burbank that will inevitably be filled in and either covered with concrete or sloped to flow completely into Bayou Fountain. That entire stretch of swamp from Lee to staring is up for sale and it's only a matter of time before all of it is developed with strip malls and shitty DSLD homes and apartments that will be section 8 shitholes within 5 years. It really makes me wonder just exactly what it takes for the city-parish to say no to any of these projects.

I would highly recommend they slow growth. Especially a permanent moratorium on apartments. More apartments = more crime

they are a decade and a half past the point of addressing that. They spend 5 years adding a 3rd lane to I-12 when it needed to be 4 lanes at the lease

They're looking at increased property taxes and sales tax revenues.

Drainage and infrastructure shortcomings...pshhh.

Cancer grows, too. Not all growth is good.

The amount of water they're going to push into bayou fountain after all that land is developed is going to be astronomical. Hell, the water that they're going to push from that monstrosity they're building at Bluebonnet and Burbank is going to cause major issues when it's complete.

I have to drive from Old Mandeville to the south end of Hwy 1077 in Madisonville 4 or 5 times a week. It's a 7.3 mile drive. During peak traffic, it takes me 35-50 minutes. I-12 or Hwy 22! The traffic here is freaking ridiculous!

Old Mandeville is fine. It's just leaving that bubble to go....anywhere! It can be a road rage nightmare!

10 years too late but a start.

A house per acre? Folsom, Bush and the rest is about to be paved. Glad I am leaving, the destruction has been sad enough already.
