The #31 overall TE in the class, we signed Mason Taylor the #24 overall TE.

Lewis 247

Taylor 247

There's also the possibility that Darnell Washington (UGA) 5 star TE hits the portal in the spring if he doesn't see himself starting and Hankton could help get him to LSU.

Depends how good they are and how much time they have left.

Bayou, you are on to something. We are in a very good situation with 5 spots and can tear into the portal during Spring evaluations and portal numbers increase by position of need.

I am like you. He will end up likely as an offensive lineman in my mind. But d line could be good also.

He ain’t a TE

Some scuttle butt out there that Saban told him that is where he should play in college. Bama signed a TE who was higher rated in this class and is enrolled (Brown), which means he will go through spring ball. Another guy Niblack from Florida who is an H-Back/TE. They signed Ouzts I think it is from SC a few years ago who looks really good and Latu will be the starter.

So he goes in 4th at best on the depth chart at TE with Niblack when he gets there this summer, maybe 5th at TE. Latu, Ouzts and Brown will be 1, 2, and 3.

Let’s assume we don’t use the full allotment of 32 spots for this year. Can the extras be rolled over or “back counted” next year like the usual 25 can?

Who would beat out Darnell? Why wouldn't he start?

Because they had arguably the best TE in the country who was a freshman in Bowers.

The guy who is from Napa Valley, CA was a freshman last year and there isn't a better tight end in the country.

Brock Bowers passed him on the depth chart.

Washington caught only 10 passes last season and UGA also signed another high rated TE this season.

Then there's Gilbert who may or may not be on campus, but I don't think is currently on the team.

Honest to god i have no idea why everyone is so concerned with Danny Lewis. He looks like an "ordinary" high school football player when placed next to SEC Caliber athletes. Yeah he's big and athletic in the general scale of human size and athleticism, but there is nothing about this guy that says to me that he will ever be a difference maker as an SEC football player.

Straight up, just looking at the guy is enough to tell you that this isn't a big loss.

I think he could be an all american OT, if he insists on TE, he will largely be a situational blocking TE imo

247, hearing this, will switch him to DE in their rankings and bump him to a high 4 star.

Very good post. And I'd love for Washington to be our guy.

Well if Eric Gilbert does return to the team (I think he is in school at UGA), they will have 3 5-star TE's. Bowers is the #1, Gilbert would be #2 and Washington 3. Does Washington sit on the bench, he already has been passed by Bowers. He comes to LSU he is TE #1. Now him being rated 3 on my depth chart does not mean he is not an elite player, he is. But that would be a crowded TE room. I think all 3 guys have NFL futures, but they are all close in classification and eligibility.

Would be a great get for LSU if Washington decides to hit the portal after spring ball.

He’s a big reason Westgate won on the road in the quarterfinals, semifinals and state championship. Included were road games at Edna Karr and Warren Easton in the Dome.
