A 19-year-old man killed in a shootout with Las Vegas police SWAT officers as they burst into an apartment was not the suspect in a murder investigation that prompted the raid, a department official said.
One officer was badly wounded, another received an arm wound and Isaiah Tyree Williams was killed in the pre-dawn shootout during the service of a search warrant Monday in southeast Las Vegas, Assistant Clark County Sheriff Andrew Walsh told reporters Thursday.
Walsh said the suspect sought in the homicide case wasn't in the apartment but was later found and arrested. He was not identified during the media briefing about the shooting.
Video from police body-worn cameras showed five SWAT officers, including three with rifles, firing a combined 23 shots toward Williams as he lay on a couch and fired 18 shots toward them with a .22-caliber handgun.
Officer Kerry Kubla, 50, a department officer since 2008, was shot in both arms and one leg and remained hospitalized facing a long recovery, Walsh told reporters.
The shooting was the second of three in a week involving Las Vegas police.
Officer Brice Clements was treated for an arm wound and released from a hospital, Walsh said.
Kubla was the first of four officers met with gunfire after breaking through the door to enter the apartment, followed by Clements, Officer Alex Gonzales and Sgt. Russell Backman.
Officer James Rothenburg fired three shots with a handgun from outside a window of the first-floor apartment where Williams was later pronounced dead, Walsh said.
The Clark County coroner said Williams died from multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

If he’s on the warrant is it cool to shoot him?

Comply or die. It’s that simple.
If he wasn’t the target of the search warrant, he would have been mildly inconvenienced for less than an hour during detainment.
Instead he choose to end his own life.
You are presumed innocent in this country. The courts are always at your disposal. And with the amount of lame District Attorneys, you are even more likely to never even be charged let alone convicted by a unanimous jury.
Stop fighting cops.

We live in a country of 330,000,000 people and sometimes someone dies.
The hyper vast majority of people go about their daily lives without incident.
Accidents and mistakes shouldn’t be headlining national news much less criminal violent interactions with police.

The caption of that video...wow!
Will be interesting to see all of the details come out on this. What tied the suspect they were looking for to that apartment? Did this guy have any ties to the suspect?
Presumably they identified themselves as police, so I don't think opening fire on them like that was very smart, nor is the fact that they did this at night relevant. His apparent rap sheet seems to offer some insight into why he chose to shoot. I mean, did he think a criminal was using flash bangs to break into his apartment?
Unfortunate situation no matter what. Hoping for a speedy recovery for the officers.

Guess there was an easier way after all.

Don’t shoot at a swat team is the point here?

Only problem with that is it a no knock warrant?
I don’t have a gun in my living room but I do in my bedroom and if someone kicked in my door in the middle of the night, I’d likely shoot too if I didn’t hear/comprehend then shouting police. I would think it’s someone breaking in and it’s them or me

Hey as long as it is not you or your family it shouldn't bother you.

Didn't we do this one already?

What I don’t like is busting in somebody’s house in the middle of the night and you don’t know who is busting in. You could be in a daze and confused when that happens and you have that right to protect your house if somebody comes in. You have a lot of homeowners who have guns in the house and bedrooms where they sleep. I’m a hard sleeper so if the SWAT announced themselves, I probably would not hear it and when you wake up, you think burglars are in your house and you start shooting.

Sorry, I didn’t know there was a thread on this already. I just saw the video and my first time reading about what happened.

Judge that signed off on that warrant should be prosecuted, as well as every single cop that didn't realize the person they were looking for wasn't in the house.
We need to stamp this shite out.

How does he know they are police? It’s not unheard of for thugs to bang on a door, yell “police” and rob someone.
He was a citizen legally defending his home. No one should boo boo over dead coppers when they overstep constitutional boundaries. His family should also sue the shite out of the police.

If a bunch of people armed with weapons burst into your apartment for no apparent reason, what would your response be? Wait for an explanation?

Did the guy reload? I don’t know of any 22caliber handgun that holds that many rounds. I’d like to have one if they exist.
