Dogs seized outside Gonzales home as freezing weather moves in; owner booked for animal cr

Now look, I don't agree with keeping them on a very short leash all day, but I wouldn't call it animal abuse. It was in the 40's yesterday too. Sometimes people just need to mind their own business. I'm not saying the dog's owners are not POS's, but saying a dog that lives outside 24/7 can't handle a 33 degree night is wrong. I've seen dogs wake up with snow on their backs before in Montana, and they were perfectly fine. Do you think mush teams don't just stake out their huskies in the snow when they stop? Animals that live outside all the time have much thicker winter coats than animals that stay inside all the time. It wasn't even dark yet, and the owner wasn't home. Who's to say he wasn't going to bring them inside for the night when he got off work? I would fight that charge, and the nosey neighbors that called the cops.

Look at these poor abused animals
I mean, we aren’t in Saskatchewan where the wind chill is -11.
This seems like overkill

Having 4 dogs chained up on a 3' leash with no shelter from the cold is abuse. The fact that they're pits leads me to believe the owner is trashy.
Verdict: guilty

Dogs aren't all built the same. Depending on other factors it might have been fine and it may not have been. There are a lot of dogs that need something besides open air and cold ground to be "safe" in near or below freezing weather.

A guy I know got a visit from the cops because some random lady called him in for animal cruelty because his horse was skinny.
If aliens showed up they would think dogs owned humans. They don't follow us around picking up our shite and feeding us.

Dogs love that kind of weather.

Put a bullet between that persons eyes as far as I’m concerned.

Dogs aren't people and the number of people who don't understand that is really disturbing.

Good thing they didn’t see mine this morning. She was picking up ducks and at one point she had ice on her coat.
Poor dog was having a blast picking up ducks while swimming in freezing temps.

Wonder if the Eskimos are worried about getting fined by the fun police for their huskys?

They were pits, short hair which doesn’t keep them warm in the winter especially when exposed to the elements
It’s actually difficult to get animals seized, I’m guessing this wasn’t the first time he was warned to give them proper housing & room to move

Even without cold weather, it sounds like the owner was a shitty owner

Frank Bell Jr., 32, of Donaldsonville, has been arrested and charged with four counts of animal cruelty. It comes after Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre said deputies responded to a home on Forest Heights Rd. off of Hwy 621 Thursday afternoon where multiple pit bulls were chained and padlocked in a front and backyard of a home.
Bell admitted to officials that he was the owner of the four pit bulls.

These 4 babies are now at Cara’s House. Thank you to APSO and Animal Control for bringing them to safety!!! Thank you to the individual who brought awareness to the conditions these dogs were living in. If you see something, say something!!!!
We will continue to care for them during the judicial process. They are not available for adoption at this time.

Look, I realize that someone with 4-5 pit bulls probably isn’t some stellar citizen, but putting someone in jail because it’s nippy outside? Is that really a wise use of resources?
Reading more, it seems he was beating them and other things, but no one did anything until it got a little nippy?
Dogs can take the cold and this is barely jacket and a hat weather. The cold isn’t the issue, it’s the mistreatment. Poorly presented article.

Yep…. Anyone who keeps a dog outside in freezing weather is the absolute scum of the Earth.. the number of people in this thread who dont understand THAT is disturbing .

A pit and my German Shepherd are going to have two totally different experiences in weather that cold. The pit is gonna be freezing while my dude would bury himself in a pile of snow if he could.
