Look into a rescue Greyhound. We've had two and they were the greatest dogs. It's a process but we used It's a Grey Area from Pearl River, LA. The pic is not of our dogs, didn't have two at a time, but just a mention of how gentle and easy going these dogs are. People breed them to race them and throw them out like trash, SAD. This place takes care of them and sends them to good homes.

Why did you get turned down? I like how all the ones complaining about not passing are real lacking in detail about the issues

It literally says in my post, we don’t have a fenced yard we live on multiple acres, we don’t have previous vet relationship, and we had a kid under 5. Can you read??

The way your initial post was written, none of this was clear.

I love the "rehoming fees" facebook moms try to get for giving their dog up. Basically selling their dog they want to give up instead of just giving it away.

Mine was a stray wandering around rural GA. I found him from a Facebook post and met the person at a gas station to grab him

He's an Alaskan Goldenmute and probably the greatest dog I've ever owned. Only cost was whatever the initial vet bill was for a check up and shots.

Adoption centers are nice, and I've always believed in adopting over shopping, but I agree that the rescue adoption process can be overkill at points.

I got really lucky with finding a stray that turned into the sweetest dog ever, but I'll 100% go back to adoption centers in the future.

I had no idea adopting a dog has gotten as convoluted as adopting a kid.

Screw all those hoops you have to jump through to qualify. I've never heard of an adoption service doing reference checks and home inspections to get a rescue dog.

Guess I've been out the dog ownership business for a long time. I do know when I look in the paper and check out dogs for sale I'm shocked at the prices. Dogs going for $1000 to $2500 and up from there.

fricking insane.

It's gotten out of hand. Unfortunately,. Too many times the dog winds up in a bad home or is returned because no one performed due diligence

I’m guessing g the dogs you’ve rescued were up to date on shots, fixed & not covered in fleas when you got them

Most rescues are in the hole, 200.00 doesn’t cover what it costs to get most strays vetted & healthy for adoption

There are reasons for this
My last foster needed to be placed in a home with no other female dogs
People will lie or unknowingly say no other pets & have rabbits or hamsters
We aren’t judging people’s homes, we are just making sure we are placing the dog in a safe environment
Vet references are important to know if previous pets were kept up to date on vaccinations

Our adoption fee is 150.00

Frick these people who run those kind of shelters. They just want your money really and aren’t interested in getting dogs into homes.

Yeah, rescues can go frick themselves. I was rejected by a couple of rescues in the Baton Rouge area because I refused to let them visit my house. Like others have said, go to the pound. I adopted my last dog from CAA(old pound out by the airport) a few months before they moved to LSU. Adoption fee was waived since she had heartworms. My mutt has been heartworm free for just over 2 years now.

I found my boy in a bar parking lot and he’s been with me for 10 years. No home inspection or “benefactor” fee needed!
Looks a lot like this little guy….

Both my cats are "rescues" (strays that we adopted). They're great.

The wife got in the mood for another cat since the one we had for 12 years died 18 months ago. My sister-in-law took in a pregnant female that had 6 kittens and we took one of the males.

I've since gotten it to the vet clinic for all its shots and neutering since it is a house cat and not wanting it to start spraying the walls or getting out and making more kittens with some feral females in our area.

This boy is totally different from the last cat that was a female. Easy going, very friendly, loves attention and playing while the last female gave off the vibe of being damn near feral and very standoffish.

Because most rescues are full of self important women that value their power and control over you more than they value the life of the dogs they’ve “rescued.”
