Anyone ever been to both the Gulf of Mexico beaches and the Atlantic Ocean beaches in FLA?

I’ve been to beaches in Tampa before, but this month I’m going to Daytona Beach, Florida. I was wondering if the beaches on the Atlantic side are any different than the ones on the Gulf side.

Sand isn’t as nice, and water is significantly colder no matter what time of year. Gulf side is better in my opinion.

Gulf side is not as rough. Prettier sand is brought in too.

Gulf is better by far except for occasional seaweed explosions.

Waves are larger on Atlantic side. Driving on the beach in Daytona is awesome (if you can still do it).

Waves are bigger on Atlantic side. Beach at Cocoa Beach was crowded and sucky. Playa Linda, north of Kennedy Space Center is part of a national seashore. It was pristine and gorgeous. Only a couple of people the day I went.

Daytona is Galveston with bluer water.

Went to Miami/Fort Lauderdale a couple years ago and enjoyed it. Never been to the gulf side but that’s my 2 cents.

They are different. The Gulf has fine, sugar sand, white beaches. The Atlantic beaches are harder packed and darker. In some places on the Atlantic, they pump in sand to build up a beach that is wider and looks more like the Gulf beaches.
My grandparents were from South Florida. The natural beach there was maybe 30 yards wide at most and dropped off pretty quickly. It also had coconut palms, sea grapes, and other fauna pretty close to the water. Now that they have pumped in a lot of sand and widened it and removed the trees and bushes, it looks more like Gulf beaches.

I’ve watched the sun rise on the east side and the sunset on the west side all in one day.
With that said, east coast is more of a dense, compact sand and the water is always colder, rougher and not nearly as pretty as the west side.

Prefer the Atlantic side because wider, flatter beaches with occasional better waves.
Sand prettier on gulf when not covered in sea weed.

Sand is nicer/whiter on the Gulf side. Water is prettier and warmer on the Gulf side.

Hotels are ridiculously expensive in the Tampa/Clearwater area, too.
It’s nothing but mangroves north along the coast all the way to Apalachicola from that area.

Atlantic beaches have murkier water and usually grey hard sand. Not terrible but not Gulf.

Some of the places on the atlantic don’t allow you to drink so you have to hide it
Like others said, sand/water is usually nicer on the gulf side. Waves are bigger on the atlantic side.
