I’ve been to the beach at St. Augustine, Fl as well as all the main spots from BSL to Panama City. I felt the surf was a bit rougher on the Atlantic side than say Destin but the sand was not where near as fine as Destin. The sand was way more “shelly” at St. Augustine.

Thanks. We’ll definitely go check a few out. Hope we get good temps and nice weather.
Was 85 miles away this week, in Orlando, but we’re looking forward to being on the coast next visit.

Biggest diff is they usually let you drive on the beach on the atlantic side, not so much on the gulf because of the dunes.
Water might be darker.

Yes. Personally I think the Florida Gulf coast beaches are the best in the continental US.
The Florida Atlantic coast beaches are probably second.
Wear coat beaches are overrated. The cliffs make them very beautiful but the beaches themselves are not all that great. And the pacific water is fricking freezing cold.

Are the Keys considered on the Atlantic or the Gulf side?

I was wondering if the beaches on the Atlantic side are any different than the ones on the Gulf side.
Way different. Bigger waves , colder water, darker/coarser sand.
I prefer the Gulf.

Atlantic can be warmer depending on time of year

The Atlantic is the Earth's cesspool.
Ugliest beaches anywhere outside of Biloxi.

Daytona is Galveston with bluer water.
I’ve never heard it described so accurately
