Back in the 70s AFC games on NBC had great crews. Curt Gowdy and Don Criqui were my favorite play by play guys. Love Cruqui with Bob Trumpy

You are looking live...

No mention of Brent Musburger in this thread yet. Don't even know who I'd partner him with as he's had plenty of color guys but Brent was one of the best.

For the NFL, it was:

Summerall/Madden
Enberg/Olsen
Criqui/Trumpy

NCAA:

Keith Jackson/Fill in the blank
Franklin/Gottfried

Those combo's made the games better.

Charlie Jones was great too. NBC had a definite sound with the announcers with the nasally voices and they had Scully too.

College is Mike Patrick and whoever else. I'd take Mike Patrick over anyone.

College football - Keith Jackson and whoever. Ron Franklin a close 2nd.

Baseball - Vin Scully. Didn’t need a partner and GOAT in any sport.

NFL - Madden and Summerall Although Meredith, Cosell and Gifford were more entertaining but a little before my time.

I don’t remember that. I remember Tom Brookshire with Pat Summeral before Madden. Summeral Madden was the classic NFC duo in the 80s

Hubie Brown is the GOAT basketball color guy. Did he share a table with Marv Albert? If so, crown ‘em for hoops.

And this is what made Keith Jackson the best. I’m not old enough to remember him calling games with Frank Broyles, but Bob Griese, Tim Brant, Dan Fouts, it didn’t matter. He was great regardless of whom he was paired with.

Keith Jackson and Frank Broyles for college

Jim Nantz and Ken Venturi for golf

Vin and Joe G for baseball

Everyone talks about Madden and Sumrall....and they were great, but to me listening to Enberg and Olsen call West Coast games on a Sunday was....comforting for lack of a better word. Enberg was the consummate professional and Olsen was so even keeled and informative.

Olsen was also one of the most decent guys to play the game from what I understand. He could crush a QB though...him and Deacon Jones were a nightmare together.....just a damn shame they had Roman Gabriel at QB.

Three time All-Pro. League MVP 1969. Don't think Roman was the issue.
