We’re also losing an all american LB and his backups don’t have a ton of experience

So? we shouldn't hire a certain good DC because we might have an inexperienced LB?

Guess Golding is out too since he runs a 3-4?

I mean it’s a good strategy right? Keep a shitty coach so you don’t lose recruits and hire assistants based on strength of a certain position group.

White runs a 3-3-5 scheme so you only need 3 true LB’s and one hybrid safety/LB that lsu seems to always have in the roster.

That’s correct. And Xavier Carter will also do well.

People on this board automatically assume a a 3 man front is 3-4 and a 3-3-5 is a nickel defense.

It’s a base defense with 3 safeties and 2 CB’s while a 3-3-5 nickel is 3 CB’s and 2 safeties.

3-3-5 is White's defense. His LB's are very aggressive.

Hester had some percentages on the air this morning and it sounds like he ran way more 3-3-5 and 4-2-5, but very multiple. Confident he will scheme around personnel until he has a chance to recruit to what he wants to accomplish.

We aren’t built for a 3-4 two gap scheme. However we are built for a 3-4 1- gap attacking scheme.

The only thing I don’t want to see is Roy and Smith end up waisted eating blocks.

They have sky high potential

Smith as an interior lineament up against OG and C is such a mismatch.

I see a lot of 4 DL, even fronts in the highlights.

White is very multiple which you have to be in todays college football. The days of lining up in 1 or 2 front is over. The great DCs have the ability to get into almost any front using personel groupings. Even, odd, over, under, tite, eagle, bear, you have to be able to do it all.

It will look like more of a Wade Phillips 3-4 than a Parcells 3-4. Wade's D was more of a 5-2 with two thumpers in the middle.

You sure it’s not a 3-4 under? That outside end in the stand up position is considered a Leo or some other terminology.

NT- Shade
DE- 4 Tech
DE- 4 Tech
Leo/Sam- Force guy

Those 4 Techs typically slant strong or weak to play single gap defense. You don’t need giant defensive ends to play this type of 3-4. Also with them in 4 techs, it discourages the offense line from double teaming.

Almost everyone is trending towards a variation of the 335 in college. It’s pretty effective against a lot of the current modern offenses and is extremely versatile.

People on this board automatically assume...a 3-3-5 is a nickel defense

It is and it isn't.
A Nickel defense is someone from the front 7 taken out and a DB is subbed in their place.
So, 5 DBs on the field="Nickel".
Dime is 6 DBs, Quarter is 7, and Dollar is 8.
Whether it's a Safety or Cornerback doesn't matter.

So, there's 335 Nickel, and it's run pretty much like a standard Nickel 425 but changing out the Front 7 personnel.
And then there's the 335 Stack Defense...
quote:

It’s a base defense with 3 safeties and 2 CB’s

That's a whole different animal than Nickel 335.

I don't understand why people keep on with this "we went back to a 34 last year". No we didn't,I never noticed us in the 34, we did play 3 man fronts but not a 34, White also runs 4 man fronts and 335 lalot, people have lost their minds with this 34 obsession with, we should be multiple.
Let this "34 is amazing, 4 man fronts are trash" die.. So many very good Defenses run 4 man fronts, I prefer a 425 or 335 over both 43 or 34 for the versatility. There's so much more to Defense than 34 vs 43 ,good lord stop it
