my favorite player I got to watch in person was Dewayne Scales
Scales was the most frustrating player in LSU history. He had the talent to be 1st team all-american and an NBA hall of famer. 6'8 and could shoot, handle the ball reasonably well, and jump out of the gym. A complete me first attitude guy who would excel in todays game.
That said, he had some stretch's of games where he was unstoppable and a joy to watch. Just a mercurial talent.
Little known fact. His first nickname at LSU was not Astronaut but Fish. I have a program from his freshman season with him on the cover with the caption Dewayne "Fish" Scales. Thank God that didn't stick.
There was a great Rant thread here about him and that team a few years ago

Yeah. Loved Tremont but he's not on starting 5. Although on this team he could never be double teamed.

Petit, Shaq, CJ, Pete, and John Williams. No team on this planet beats that 5

This has to be it. Obviously Shaq, Chris, and Pistol. Petit and Macklin were stars on teams that were awesome.

Pete
Shaq
Petit
Jackson
Garrett Temple
Nobody is beating me. We would have defense inside, outside and offense at all levels.

Lololol
Bob Petit was a scoring machine and had a hell of a mid range game. He wasn’t all about rebounding.

Obligatory VERNEL mention.
Doesn't matter who gets hurt, he can fill in; doesn't matter what he's asked to do, he can do it.

Gotta put big baby in that last spot he was tough as hell to handle... he was so light on his feet

People are so disconnected from history… It’s a shame…
In all fairness, his era was a long, long time ago. But Pettit was a monster at LSU (and in the NBA) and there is no all-time LSU basketball team that doesn't include him.

Move Pete to guard and bump waters to make room for rudy macklin. Then you’ve got 3 hall of famers and 2 college hall of famers. I don’t think any school can top that lineup.
UCLA and North Carolina, but that's about it.

Only reason I put Tremont on my list was for intangibles. He had some crazy comeback from behind games. Hussle for the ball, pass it behind him while on the floor, no look, perfect pass.
Just thought it would be fun to see him and pistol together.
There are better players ahead of him, but it would be mayham with Tremont, pistol and c. Jackson on the court at the same time.

Every time this topic is posted, I have to remind the youngsters that Rudy Macklin had 32, yes THIRTY-TWO rebounds as a 6-7 forward...
In his FIRST ever college basketball game.
It is still the LSU record today.

Jerry Reynolds was THE MAN. I could go with him at the small forward. Hell of a defensive player too.

Chris Jackson
Pistol Pete
John Williams
Stromile Swift
Shaq
6th man - Jerry Reynolds

Bob Petit made the recent NBA all time top 75 team and is generally considered one of the best power forwards in NBA history and many of you are putting random nba scrubs or people who never played a full season of nba games ahead of him on an all time LSU team?
Example: LINK
I guess you wouldn’t put Bill Russell on the all time team if he went here?

Kentucky could go with:
Dan Issel
Anthony Davis
Jamal Mashburn
Tony Delk
Rajon Rondo
North Carolina is better than Kentucky with
James Worthy
Michael Jordan
Phil Ford
Tyler Hansborough
Sam Perkins
You have guys like Vince Carter who don't even make the starting lineup.
UCLA would be even better than North Carolina
Gail Goodrich (PG)
Reggie Miller (SG)
Marques Johnson (SF)
Bill Walton (move to PF)
Lew Alcindor (C)
Kansas would be salty
Wilt Chamberlain (C)
Danny Manning (PF)
Paul Pierce (SF)
Jo Jo White
Mario Chalmers
Backup center is Joel Embiid.
Indiana
Isiah Thomas
Scott May
Quinn Buckner
George McGinnis
Walt Bellamy
Not sure which would be best.
