4 spots are locked in

Shaq
Pistol
Petit
CJ.

The question had been who is that fifth spot forever now. Personally I would probably go Maclin on the college level.

Ben Simmons has the talent to be on this list. Shame he hasn't been able to do enough with it to be considered.

The non-negotiables:
Pistol
Shaq
Chris Jackson

Old school legend:
Bob Pettit

Controversial pick but belongs based on skillset:
Ben Simmons

Pistol and Jackson will do the heavy lifting for scoring. Shaq, Simmons, and Pettit rebound EVERYTHING and dominate the paint. This team would destroy all opponents except maybe an all-time top 5 from UNC if Jordan heats up, but I'd still take a heated up Maravich over a heated up Jordan in their college years.

The first five is obvious.

Chris Jackson
Pete Maravich
Shaq
Bob Petit
Rudy Macklin

Anyone questioning Macklin never saw him play…

This is the correct answer.

Pistol
Jackson
Shaq
Stro
Tyrus

I know it's not the greatest of all time but I'm thinking of a strategic starting 5 that you want not part of. And you don't want any part of that front court or back court.

You couldn't put a duke or nc team that could touch this squad

Pistol, Shaq, Chris... are obvious. John Williams, and Rudy Macklin. Macklin was the glue to the best LSU team I ever saw play. In today's game, I saw something on YouTube that had figured Pete would have average between 50 and 52 points a game over three seasons. Wow!

Pistol Pete
Chris Jackson
Shaq
Rudy Macklin
Stromile Swift

The only school that could match that lineup would be UNC with MJ, Worth and Co.

Some may overlook Williams on the all time team but at roughly 6’8 and about 230 dude was highly skilled in all areas of the game.

People who may downvote Pettit may be too young to know how good he was. There are arguably some other guys you could pick at his position though. Obvious unanimous picks would be Pistol Pete, Shaq and Jackson. The other 2 spots can be a person's preference pick because there are a lot of good players you can finish out the 5 with.

The all-time team is always gonna be filled with too many scorers. There aren’t enough balls for CJ and Pete on the floor at the same time. Obviously in this type of question, you just throw out the best players, but if building a true team to try to win, it would look totally different.

For instance, Pete or CJ would have to be 2nd team and get a true point guard that just wants to feed the others. You could also afford to put someone like Garrett Temple on the team to lock down the other team’s best scorer.

I understand what you are implying, I don't totally agree with you because even though Pete and Jackson were prolific scorers, they still distributed the ball pretty good. If you could have possibly assembled them to play together, it would have worked out, just like the dream team from the olympics or NBA all star games.

I don’t think any school can top that lineup.
UCLA will take that challenge:

PG: Russell Westbrook
SG: Reggie Miller
SF: Gail Goodrich
PF: Bill Walton
C: Lew Alcindor

Their sixth man (Jamaal Wilkes) is even a HOFer.

Pete and CJ were better passers than anyone else who ever played at LSU also. They could dish assists as well as anybody, but their teams needed their scoring ability also, so they scored.
