Bavarian Prince decries Oktoberfest cultural appropriation

The Prince of Bavaria complained about the effect 'cultural appropriation' has had on Oktoberfest, bemoaning the fact that the annual German festival is 'just about wearing a costume to get drunk in.'
While speaking to a local radio station, Luitpold Rupprecht Heinrich said that the focus on spectacle has caused Oktoberfest to lose its way.
"When I see Chinese-made folk costumes made of plastic, pseudo-costumes with tight dirndls, then the whole thing becomes a carnival," Heinrich said, per the Daily Mail. "We all talk about cultural appropriation today. Here it's happening to us Bavarians!"
The great-grandson of the last Bavarian king is not alone in his concerns about how Oktoberfest has changed. Many traditionalists feel what is supposed to be a celebration of Bavarian culture has now become an excuse to dress up and drink.
"If the whole thing is just about wearing a costume to get drunk in...you lose a lot of culture and tradition in the process," Heinrich said.
The first-ever Oktoberfest in 1810 was a celebration of the wedding between Prince Regent Ludwig of Bavaria, the later King Ludwig I, and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.

Well, what traditional activities did they do before drinking and partying?

So does this idiot Prince want to tell us what it really should be about, or is he just a fig that doesn’t want to see titties falling out drindls while he drinks good beer?

I wish southerners would culturally appropriate Oktoberfest.
I want a couple weeks of beers, brats, and babes too.

I appropriate the shite out of some German beer. I don’t need lederhosen or plastic costumes but those mofos know how to make beer. My time in Bavaria was incredible the culture, the weather, the scenery.

I hear he’s already causing trouble in the beer halls of Munich and is looking to take his brand of socialism national.

I typically have 3 Oktoberfest parties I go to in Knoxville every year that my friends throw. We are some appropriating MF'ers around here.

Okay then. The krauts can't sing "Take Me Home, Country Roads" anymore at their Oktoberfest.

Friend,
I am glad someone finally said it. Over my lifetime, I have seen the rapid erosion of the meaning of many HOLYdays. Yes, we have all seen how Christ is rapidly being removed from Christmas and how Christmas is used by some as an excuse to have a debauched office party where drunkenness and lasciviousness cloud and cover the holy meaning of Christ's birth. But consider our other holidays.
St. Patrick's Day has been coopted, no, hijacked by carnal tipplers and barflies. More and more Thanksgiving becomes a day to celebrate football and gluttony rather than the blessing God gives. All Saints Day is ignored. New Years Day is celebrated on January 1 rather than the first Sunday of Advent, which is the true beginning of the year. Mardi Gras has, like St. Patrick's Day, been corrupted to the point that most Americans see it as a debauched day for reprobates rather than the holy day that it is.
Ours is a nation whose foundation has gone missing. Americans seem to prefer entertainment, fighting, and getting drunk to spiritual pilgrimage, almsgiving, works of love, prayer, and church service. If we can slowly take back our holidays, maybe we will have a chance.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

I disagree, except for the fighting part.
I'd rather hang out with friends and be entertained and drink some beer than do boring church shite any day of the year.
