I wish southerners would culturally appropriate Oktoberfest.

Come to central texas, San Antonio and Fredericksburg during October. There are celebrations.

The real move is Wurstfest in new Braunfels. It is a local version of their own Oktoberfest but it’s in November. Wurst = sausage.

Best German festival in Texas I guarantee it. People come from all over texas. I bet you Louisiana boys would love it.

Yes, the Central Texas Oktoberfests are good.

I like the New Orleans one, personally. Its not as big as those but its a good time.

Underrated comment. This is by far the most popular song for them to sing at this event every year for the past 20 years or so

America is more British than German but the British ditched their customs to be American and the Germans… sort of did.

I might have to check out the New Orleans one some day.

Right now every weekend for the next month and a half there is live German music all over the river walk in San Antonio. Last Sunday i saw a dude singing a mix of southern rock, texas country, and German music. Was a hell of a time. Even saw some LSU baws that were clearly entertained but had no idea WTF was going on

The New Orleans one is at Deutcheshaus on Bayou St John. Its a nice setting.

It takes place in October though, because:

1) New Orleanians are too stupid to separate October from Oktoberfest
and
2) September is still too hot

Look, its not super special and not anywhere as nice as some other ones but I enjoy it.

St. Patrick's Day
Halloween
4th of July (debatable)

It’s different in America. No matter what culture you are celebrating just because of America’s sheer diversity the majority of people celebrating will not belong to that culture. They have no reason to celebrate other than by drinking. And TBH people who visit Germany have no connection to it either unless their ancestors were German. And even then they may or may not give a shite about their ancestors.

It was inevitable that in America every celebration would turn into a drinking fest. It’s sad that it is like that in the places these celebrations started though tbh.

I haven’t been to Oktoberfest in Germany though so I really can’t comment. Maybe the prince here is overreacting a bit.

2 blonds on roller blades playing the accordion while folks sing along and copious amounts of beer, if this is wrong, I don't want to be right!

Indeed, he's got a point. It's a shame that people who think Oktoberfest is all about wearing a costume and getting drunk obfuscates the great cultural tradition of....

WEARING A COSTUME AND GETTING DRUNK!

You mean people are no longer celebrating a 2 century old wedding?

Culturally yes,but factually no. It's not, Germans are the largest white ethnic group (and largest period I think) in the USA according to the census.

When Munchen decided to start Octoberfest in September you just know that the beer sales would be that much more important to their bottom lines.
