Where to stay in Jackson, MS

Have to go in December. Heard Jackson has potentially gotten worse than Baton Rouge. Any decent priced hotels in Jackson in a “safe” area?

Stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in Madison. Much nicer area.

Colony park shopping area in ridgeland/Madison has a bunch of hotels around it. Nice area.
