Post-practice interview

So often guys play it cool or don’t share too much about their excitement for just playing the game. You can tell Weeks is loving this. Loving Tiger Stadium. Loving the crowd. Loving playing with his brother.

You can see him anchoring the middle of our defense for years. Looking forward to what it looks like when he transitions from young, talented, energetic follower and into a mature, dominant leader.

Man this is exactly what I’ve been waiting on since BK got here. Some truly alpha leaders to emerge and I think you’re 100%. I think Whit is going to be one of them, if he hasn’t already become one.
We need one just like that to emerge in every position group.
I can see Andre Sam emerging as the leader of the secondary and maybe Womack on the D line.

Regardless who it is, when those TRUE leaders emerge, this team is going to be a dangerous team for any opponent.

Loving him and Penn.

Penn gives good interviews too, he did one just before the season started and dude broke down every position group coach-speak style.

If so, then I’m sorry. I am just used to seeing those particular cliches used backhandedly in a certain way.

I think I’m in the minority, but I’m confident about our defense against Ole Miss.

House shut Ole Miss down (in the 2nd half) last year, had them ready in Starkville a few weeks ago, & I like what Whit had to say about the matchup this week.

quote:

Coach House has a real good game plan. They’re a fast offense so we’ve been working tempo out at practice today. You just gotta eliminate the big plays for them.

I understand what you're saying. You're not wrong but I think there has been a slight or even more than slight dip in some of that.

He’s aggressive and has a lot of energy. He wasn’t afraid of KJ Jefferson one bit. He’s one of the reasons why I think the defense will eventually pan out, whether this year or next.

"Coming out of the tunnel in Tiger Stadium was one of the greatest experiences of my life!" This should be played for every recruit.

This guy makes you wish you had a daughter just so she could date him so you could hang out with them.

Also, he touches on the complexity of House's defense.

Makes you wonder if the main reason for the poor defense is House not keeping it simple enough for our athletes to just go play.

We were 'maintain your gaps" away from dominating Ark. That can be fixed. If it is it solves a majority of our defensive problems. Will see this weekend.

100%. He is only going to get smarter and combining that with his physical traits leads to a very impressive middle linebacker.

Wasn't he like a three star recruit? Hmmm. Talent evaluation is crucial.

All the obstacles against him and he has shown up to be a Leader into the new Tiger era with Perkins and Campbell.
Excited about him.
He can’t be Perkins and Perkins can’t be him. Totally different mentality and field position.
Hopefully we get something accomplished with them here together.

Weeks is going to be a really good player for us for a long time. He’s a freshman, who is getting an opportunity to step up and help his team. He will not be alone in filling a need caused by injury, suspension, etc…
Freshmen will and can contribute to this very good team of ours.
Congratulations to Whit and his brother for choosing the good guys in Baton Rouge.

Wow. Guy could be mediocre during his career here but what an awesome attitude that you want to cheer for. Wish nothing but the best for this kid, his brother, and his family.
