Screw the insiders and flight trackers, what does your gut tell you?

I'm gonna say Jeff Traylor from UTSA gets the job. He's the safe hire, is well-respected, and won't require a 10 year $100 million contract. I just don't think Aggie wants to do that again.

Jedd Fisch or Jeff Traylor is my guess.

While it's gotta be a hail mary hire for Bjork to keep his job, I don't think they go for the splash hire coming off the Jimbo debacle. Some of Bjork's public comments indicate that they're planning to mine the Group of 5 for their next coach, so...if it's not Traylor it's Fritz from Tulane. My prediction is one goes to aTm and one goes to Moo State.

Elko seems too conventional of a choice, but it still makes a lot of sense once a few choices say no or get shot down.

I think the odds it’s Elko are a lot higher than Traylor. It obviously won’t be Willie Fritz

Regarding Mike Elko. I get the connection but am I the only one not really buying the hype?

Duke had a lot of preseason/early season hype based off beating a bad clemson team and have lost 5 of their last 7 games.

He went 9-4 last year. Solid but not any better than cutcliffe did there yet Cutcliffe was never up for a job like TAMU.

His wiki has his defensive stats on it too. He had one season where TAMU was a top 10 defense which was the covid year. Otherwise it was 34, 30 and 20. Solid numbers but not spectacular. DJ Durkin is doing just as good.

Just seems like a lot of people are calling him the "smart" hire but I just see it as pretty underwhelming.

It’s a fair question to ask if we’d be considering him if he hadn’t just coached for us

He inherited a significantly different situation than Durkin did roster wise I’ll say

I can buy that part of it.

If Duke was sitting there 8-3/9-2 Id feel very different if I was an Aggie fan. As it is they squandered away a lot of momentum for the program and are on the verge of a .500 season.

It just feels like everyone has spoken Mike Elko to TAMU after Jimbo gets fired for so long in the media that it seems inevitable.

Cutt let that program fall off a cliff, especially in recruiting, his last two seasons. Elko walked into what looked like a significant rebuild at a place where it’s historically very difficult to win.

As for this year, the QB injuries really derailed their season.

While my prediction is Traylor, this would be my first call if I was A&M. He'd be more expensive than Traylor, but I don't think he'd require a 10 year contact. 5 years and $60 million might do it. I think he's making around $9 mil at OM now. As an LSU fan, I don't want Lane at A&M, though they'd have to worry about Bama calling in a few years if he had any success.

All of this. I think the guy they started against UVA is a true freshman, and that game was really the only bad loss they've had; the schedule has been tough.

There was a report on here a few days ago that said the Michigan State job was Elko's. If that was even remotely true, I think Jimbo getting fired threw a wrench into things.

Traylor to A&M sort of feels like Napier to LSU. Seems like his people are trying to force his name into the conversation, and get local media to talk him up. I think he's more of a backup option if A&M strikes out on the rest of their list, which I doubt they will.
