Only thing about Merlins is he has burned a lot of bridges the way he handled his shite. As a coach that can be a great offensive mind and get a QB playing into his system yes. As a recruiter of other positions and the image of the program as a whole then he now has a lot of baggage.
We would need a helluva supporting cast to offset this including someone who could jumpstart fresh ideas for NIL. Problem is, who wants to work with Merlins knowing he throws past coaches and people who helped him under the bus?
My bet is he keeps his Cush analysis job.

Not sure of the accuracy, but heard on a podcast yesterday that he has an elite golfer son that he is enjoying being “golf dad” and may wait a few years.

Maybe at a school that enjoys a competitive NIL advantage, not sure that’s the case in Starkville when he would be competing with A&M, Texas, LSU, Bama and OU for recruits.
IMO he would be best served as an elite OC who doesn’t have to recruit working for a defensive minded HC who stays out of his way with the offense.
Cash huge checks, wouldn’t really have to recruit and could tinker with offenses stacked with NIL blue chip recruits.
Think what he could’ve done at Bama this year with Milroe for example? Or at LSU with Daniels and those WRs?

I really don't think a second stint of Mullen is the answer for State
Then again though, if they hire someone like Chadwell and he has success than it's only a matter of time before another Power 5 program comes after him and you are back at square one

Yeah, I posted in a previous thread that the word must be out that he's not looking for a job. I haven't seen his name pop up on odds lists for any openings.

I wonder if NIL would make recruiting easier for Mullen. He wouldn't have to stroke recruits' egos (he never did), he could just give them a number.

Would a bigger program want to run his system? State has been at square one 4 times in the last 6 years. Moorhead, Leach, Arnett, now.
