Jim Leavitt at USF and it's not even close. Especially with all the upcoming conference realignments.

FIU firing Cristobal and East Carolina firing Ruffin McNeil were both terrible calls.

Yeah these were atrocious firings, especially Cristobal.

Mullen fired from Florida
Mullen wanted nothing to do with the NIL era and was checked out. That's why he's in the booth now and will probably stay there for a long time, if he even ever goes back to coaching.

McElwein by Florida? Didn't he win the east two of his three years at UF? I guess shark humping is where they draw the line.

The East was weak. Really weak. Oh, and how has McElwain fared at CMU since then?

I think people saying this one are forgetting why he was fired. He supposedly hit a player in the locker room after a game. Then he lied about it and interfered with the schools investigation, telling players to lie for him. There was no way they could keep him after all that came out.

They had delusions of grander as well as constantly looking north. Even though USM was winning more consistently under Bower they were always 3rd in the state for attention and money.

I remember talking to a USM fan the year after they let Bower go and that was exactly what they said. They said that they were better than the New Orleans bowl or any other small bowl. They said that they should be playing in the Sugar bowl (or the equivalent).

Mullin at UF - had just played for a SEC title
Freeze at Ole Miss - send him to rehab, but he was the best coach they had and he wanted to be there. Lane is miserable in oxford.

I would say Mullin at UF. IDK how his tenure would have turned out if it were extended but I am willing to bet it would have been much better than Sunbelt Billy.

Not actually fired but WVU did run Bobby Bowden off to FSU.

Not run off. West Virginia at the time had a state law about certain classifications of employers like coaches at the universities could only get one year contracts.

I think they used him being a douche as an excuse to fire him because he was consistently good but not great, and Nebraska fans want to be great. Of course they followed it up with maybe the most inexplicable hiring of all time in Mike Riley so what the hell do I know, though.

This isn’t college football but probably the worst firing of all time was Belicheck by the Browns.

Tom Brady wasn't going to be walking through the Browns door. He would have had a roster of quarterbacks worse than Mac Jones and broken down Cam Newton and we saw what his results were with Mac Jones and a broken down Cam Newton.

Mullen at Florida. He was doing fine and with NIL the recruiting would have picked up anyway.
