I would rather have Coach O than Jimbo. Go all in for Herman!

Jimbo has checked out at fsu. I'm sticking to it, he'll be the coach here next year

I honestly think that keeping Aranda is kind of an unspoken caveat for whoever is offered the job. LSU brass and big time donors think very highly of Aranda. It was a major coup for LSU to snag him when Les' seat was so hot. He is a very sharp defensive mind who is young with a lot of tread left on the tires.

So LSU's plan to lure Tom Herman or another top coach is to tell him who will be on his staff? Bold strategy, lets see if it pays off

Spurrier was a horrid recruiter and left USCe in shambles talent wise.

He is also 71 years old and basically retired and getting a salary having fun at his alma mater.

Pretty sure Duke is his alma mater. Has he been chillin' at Duke?

Eta: My bad. Duke was his 1st HC job.

Agreed, personally I think it's verbally done and has been, save maybe the signatures.

Herman may very well end up being the better coach, time will tell, but the Jimbo-LSU "fits" just make Jimbo a slam-dunk easy hire... Probably one of the easiest home run run hires in CFB history, which is crazy since he's obviously got a great gig at Florida State.

His success, offensive background and philosophy, connections and recruiting, QB development, all - on paper - put LSU in title contention immediately and pave the way for a seamless transition into the post-Miles era.

I have no doubt LSU is going to cover its bases in case something crazy goes down (Herman, Fedora, Mullen, etc), but I think all signs point to Jimbo or O at this point.

It's really a pretty easy call... 2 realistic home run hires out there as far as the public is concerned; Jimbo and Herman. One is a known, safe pick, the other is an unknown gamble with limited experience. I get the attraction to Herman, I really do, but there's no way LSU takes Herman over Jimbo if both are willing to come. IMO the only way it gets to Herman is if Jimbo passes or makes crazy demands, Which I don't believe he will.

The downside to all of this is if they don't hire Orgeron, I think they lose Orgeron.

Agreed

It comes down to an ego thing IMO... if CEO isn't retained as head coach, will he be willing to swallow his pride and resume his duties of coaching the d line?? I wonder how his relationship with jimbo is

It would suck, but it also depends on what happens during the season. If he goes 4-3 (depending on how the UF game play's out), I don't think he would leave. 6-1 or 5-2, he probably will. Just have to wait and see.

Doesn't this thread and this one contradict each other?

Why interview him if he's guaranteed to not get the job?

They probably have to. I work for the state of TN and we hold interviews for positions that are filled all the time. It satisfies requirements and identifies people we may call to fill a future position

Right, it just seems odd that they would interview someone that they've already decided was not going to get the job.

Surely, those that would get pissed at a lack of due dilligence know that the powers that be have no intentions of hiring Fedora, right?

Who are we appeasing by interviewing people we've already decided are not getting the job? The fans?

In the post you're referencing, it said a couple of those guys would get an interview. Fedora was on the list. Now he's saying fedora is getting an interview. Nothing changed.
