There’s nothing Orgeron could do that you wouldn’t love.

And the part about you running a business is laughable, except there’s so much corporate welfare rewarding failure for stupid businesses I could actually see it.

There’s no way a competent businessman would ever operate like Alleva and O.

We’ll never know how that could have played out with Canada, I don’t believe he was given a true shot with all of the tools but I’m tired of arguing this point .Oh yeah still think he’s not being fired Earl?

This offense needs to be brought into the modern era of CFB, that ain’t Steve

I just hope they dont cross out Briles and Freeze because of fear of PR backlash

Freeze was probably straight up PR backlash, and maybe some pressure from the SEC.

I would have liked Briles, but I think this went deeper than just negative PR. There are still active investigations and at least one active lawsuit regarding Baylor. While his only link currently is an off color quote, there's really no telling what could possibly come out as these investigations and the lawsuit proceed.

While it sucks, it's at least understandable that the administration didn't want to take the chance.

Why not? They have taken a huge chance with O and his past on and off the field

You originally posted "that 2004 USC offense" and edited out the year. I think that's telling in what O seems to want.

I remember reading a lot of stuff in SI about the various "other" offenses back then.
USC and other "big" schools had the overall talent to run these offenses like the pros do, so the theory went. They had the QBs, the skill positions, and the linemen.
Smaller programs couldn't compete, so they had to go to 'gimmicks' like the spread (Purdue with Drew Brees was listed). They couldn't line up and play man on man across the board, so they had to pull the elite defenses out of position.

Frankly, if that theory is true, we can't run a pro style either. Les Miles unintentionally proved that you can't just line up across from Alabama and duke it out, and hope to win. He wanted to, and for awhile he held his own. But Bama's increasing depth advantage eventually eliminated that. Before you could wear out their front 7, they just sub in 7 guys just as good, and at best you could hope for a stalemate. There would be no imposing of wills on them.
We saw LSU try this with Fournette and an O line generally considered as very good, and it just didn't work.
The last time we beat Bama, we ran into that same brick wall, we just had the defense to hold them completely under wraps too, and it took going to overtime before we were able to crack that D.

We saw that in '16, our defense was strong, but we just weren't ever going to move on them in a conventional attack.

Canada's schemes worked, he pulled them out of position. Freeze's schemes worked too, as did the playground game Manziel had against them. Oklahoma and Ohio State also won with non-pro style offenses.

Miles' ideas would work against 99% of college football, even considering the Wisky loss (we had a terrible QB on the road against a very solid team, and we still should have won). It won't against Bama, and we have to play them every year. That's why we went away from Miles.
Going with 'a USC offense' is basically going back to the Miles plan, but with a less established base.

Orgeron's past is well detailed, thoroughly documented, and all investigations and lawsuits are closed. It was 26+ years ago and no new information is going to come to light that will force LSU to terminate his employment. You can't, with full confidence, say the same thing about Briles.

Put me down as in favor of it as it will serve to hasten Orgeron’s departure.

Deep down, I still can’t believe that he would settle on E. We were promised the best coordinators/coaches and no one in coaching circles would put E in the company of the best offensive minds currently in the game.

I think they could do worse. I would prefer if they got someone else though. The problem that we are running into is that there are very few non-spread coordinators left out there that aren’t old.

All of the young guys coming up want to run a wide open spread 5 wide system

He’s not being fired. He’d be gone by now if he were simply getting fired

And I like what he did too but a lot of fans don’t, despite loving the hire, and that’s my point. Fans don’t know shite regarding coaching searches because they don’t have any information

Tech Grad. I have a $186m run rate 2018 business with a CAGR of 26%, 46% gross margin, and a group of 54 people in my business unit. That doesn't make me an expert on hiring OC's, it only gives me perspective on organizational management, and I also have to understand how satisfy constituents. That's all.

Lester he’s being fired, you’re basically the only one that doesn’t see that. It’s been all but confirmed even by his boy mike D. There’s no debate.

He’d be gone by now if he were simply leaving

So you think he’s not only getting fired but negotiating a lower buyout too?

Wut

He’s quitting but LSU is giving him any of his buyout

Wut

The negotiation is if they can fire him with cause, pay him his full buy out, or a negotiated amount. It would be done now if it were what you’re saying it is.

I never said it was a good idea.

People are acting like we’d be hiring catholic high schools WR coach though.

Coaching hire threads are nothing more than a popularity contest.

LSU fans have hated hires that ended up being good and loved ones that ended bad. New year, same posts

I'm not an O believer, but I want Ensminger.

Let O choose who he wants, let him run the program how he wants, so that there are no excuses if/when it fails. I will still be hoping for the best.
