So someone that beat a #1 team last year (Saban in 1998) and will win 10 games this year in a power conference (Saban in 1999).

The following meet that criteria if they get to 10 wins this year

1. Clark Lea
2. Kirby Smart
3. Ryan Day

So you are advocating for Clark Lea it would appear because Smart and Day aren't leaving their jobs

Chasing anything close to Saban is insanity.

But I agree they need to have an actual search, no Eddie O type situation.

I think the Wisconsin HC is a good one.

The most successful recent hire was hiring an offensive assistant from the Saints to be the offensive coordinator in 2019. Whatever criteria was used to hire Joe Brady should be applied to head coaching hire.

Saban had been in consideration for the Giants job back then.

I think they tried that with BK. He was at ND. Saban was at Mich St.

The most wins of active coaches is not a diamond in the rough approach.

he "Saban was a diamond in the rough" narrative has always been a suspect and factually incorrect.

The man definitely had potential but there were almost no indications prior to his arrival at LSU that he would become the coach that he eventually became. He had done an admirable job holding Michigan State's program together in the aftermath of NCAA sanctions, but he still only achieved a .585 winning percentage in East Lansing the five seasons he was there.

NS was very well respected in the coaching profession both college and pro.He was focused had a plan and was very consistent in how he coached as an assistant and HC. He wasn’t known down here very much but elsewhere was.Jon Sumrall has the same respect from his coaching peers.

This is mostly accurate. After the first press conference, we were cautiously optimistic. “Sounds like this guy has his act together.”

They looked at the sucess he had at Michigan St being the tier two school in Michigan and gaged that as if he can have that kind of success being the number two in the state, imagine what he could do at the number one school with no recruiting compentation.

I remember listening to a interview agout how they found Saban.

I think they used the same formula to find Miles.

Skip applied the criteria Saban had to his hiring of Les Smiles. Successful coach at a power 5 conference who was not at a big dog program, but was showing sings of punching above their weight.

Similar guys:

Dillingham
Clark Lea
Brent Key
Jeff Brohm
Jed Fisch
Cignetti
Matt Campbell

No, don't use it because college football is completely different now. It is hardly even close to what it was like when Saban is hired.

The reaction was mixed when we hired Saba. Many were excited that we hired "Lou" Saban, who was an NFL DC. Others thought we hired Lou's kid or nephew.

The panicans were quick to point out Saban's record at MSU and compare it to DiNardo at LSU.

34-24-1

vs

32-24-1

There were lots of grumblings about cultural fit, whatever that is.

What'd he win at Notre Dame? One championship game and Saban abused his team.

Toledo and Michigan State were in really good spots when he left.
