What is it about Cincinnati that breeds Power 5 coaches?

Their last 5 coaching hires have been pretty remarkable (with the exception of Tuberville):
Mark Dantonio
Brian Kelly
Butch Jones
Tommy Tuberville
Luke Fickell
Does their AD just know how to pick em?

I think it’s first of all a testament to how well they hire. and they’re able to hire well because of the success of former coaches. Kind of goes hand-in-hand.

He's a U.S. Senator... seems pretty remarkable to me.
On second thought, there's more senator jobs than P5 HC jobs.

When Dantonio Kelly and Jones were there they were Big East, which was a Power Conference. So that kind of messes the argument up.

Ohio talent

Lots of similarities between Cincy UCF and UH I think. G5 programs at large universities that put quite a few resources into their programs relative to their peers. And all 3 in medium to large cities in recruiting hotbeds.

The continuity is impressive with Tuberville as the obvious outlier. UofH has struggled with it given Levine and Applewhite, though neither was a terrible failure.

Yeah Levine was just a bad hire. I don’t think UH grasped how desirable a job it was at that level yet. It speaks to the advantages the program has that neither completely fell flat on their face

Ohio talent, large market, typically weaker conference opponents with less resources, less fan support, and less money overall
Much like Houston program
Easy program to win at
-which is why one better do their due diligence hiring a Cinci coach, because the program is set up for success for pretty much any coach. Very difficult to ascertain if it’s the coach or the program situation itself driving the success

They are willing to take chances on coaches from smaller schools and/or coordinators so they hire the best coach available while we say those guys aren't good enough for us.

Da Toni o and tuberville had awful years there compared to Kelly and Fickell
Butch was ok but it was 2 yrs

Butch Jones is on the list and you go after Tuberville who did have a 13-0 team that finished #2 and technically, USC had to vacate #1?

Talent rich area, a pretty attractive city, well funded athletic department.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Traditionally, that's been a really tough job. When Rick Minter won a Humanitarian Bowl there in '97, that was their first bowl appearance since Sid Gillman was there in the 40s.
Kelly really showed what the program was capable of, and Fickell has taken it to the next level. Dantonio, Tuberville, and Butch were each there briefly, and were mostly unremarkable.

Who doesn’t even know the 3 branches of the government. From a state that supported a pedophile for district attorney. When I say “these people are dumb” I MEAN “THESE PEOPLE ARE DUUUUUUMB”.

Though Levine was an elite recruiter who was responsible for virtually all the talent on Herman’s teams. I’ll give him that. Dude owns Chick-fil-a restaurants now. Good for him. But yeah, it was an underwhelming hire at the time, even more so than Major.
With Levine and Applewhite, I think UH was hoping for continuity from the Sumlin and Herman regimes, respectively, but also loyalty in that UH took a chance on lesser names who were less likely to be snatched up by a P5 team in 2-3 years.
Holgs was a different strategy and altogether unique: throw the bank at an offensive-minded P5 coach who was wearing out his welcome at his current school and was familiar with UH, Texas and Fertitta.
