I think there are 2 realistic boom hires out there. 3 meets expectations and then. 3 nuclear melts Lil stoops, BOB, & Jimbob

He’s a “done more with less” coach.

Iowa State sorta sucks and he has them sorta good.

May be willing to leave because he’s clearly maxed their potential.

Why would Brian Kelly be a bad hire?

Officially? I haven't been paying that much attention to be honest. If so, that's good, don't have to worry about that one.

I get That, and I think Napier would have had success at LSU.

But I’ll say, winning at ULL is hard, but no harder than winning at any other Sunbelt school.

The sunbelt doesn’t have its own version of a blue blood. Whichever team JS a halfway decent coach usually kicks adds those coaches don’t always translate at other schools.

What's the difference between Jimbo and Kelly? Both haven't adapted to modern spread offenses.

Kelly runs 3TE on the file constantly.

He's a very vanilla hire and has reached his peak.

I've also not seen him develop QBs I don't think he has any in the NFL. We need someone that can recruit 5* QB and aOL consistently to compete. I just don't think he has the chops for recruiting.

I’m not excited about Kelley because he basically killed a kid, but from a strictly coaching standpoint, we could do much worse.

I wouldn’t melt, but don’t want. He can coach, but he’s 60 years old. LSU needs stability and a culture change in the program. Just don’t see him as the right fit.

I can't believe there are people that would be upset if it was Kelly. This is why we don't deserve nice things. I understand the incident with the kid, I hate that. From a pure coaching standpoint, he's 263-96. He has ND winning at high levels and recruiting well for a school like ND (They have limitations given they don't have the resources LSU has). he would be the shocking big time hire nobody is talking about. Get a grip people.

BOB, M. Stoops, EB, and Joe Judge

Would be very happy with Rhule, Aranda, Kelley, Jimbo

Could get behind Kiffin and Campbell

Melts: BOB, Stoops, promotion from within

Not a melt but wouldn't like the hire: Kelly

I'd be apathetic: Campbell, Fisher

Brain Kelley.

Why?

In the last 4 seasons he is:

12-1
11-2
10-2
11-1

...with two CFP appearances. The only other HCs who can say that are Saban, Dabo, Day, Riley. I think it is safe to say LSU isn't getting any of those 4.

Is it the lack of playoff success? If so, that's fine. But this place went nuclear upon hearing the news that a guy (Riley) who has had just as little playoff success was named the HC at another school.

In the last 4 seasons his losses are:

Clemson (CFP)
@ UGA
@ Michigan
Clemson (ACC champ)
Alabama (CFP)
Cincinnati

He hasn't been beaten by a bad team in 4 years. You could maybe argue his is maximizing his talent at ND which has more restrictions on which players they can recruit as opposed to places like Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, etc. Would he have been my first choice? Maybe not. But what other REALISTIC candidate matches that resume?

It always surprised me that he didn't get more blowback from that.

It's widely believed that Stoops or O'Brien would be the floor for this hire, with Riley and Fickell as the ceiling. If we end up with either Stoops or O'Brien, then I'd like to know what happened to the other candidates in between them and Riley.

It appears that one of three things happened. Either Woodward had his guy all along and it wasn't Riley; Riley turned us down and Woodward has a solid back up plan; or we put all of our eggs in one basket with Riley and it's a shite show now.
