Jimmy Ott just said this on Sports Today and I can confirm this is 100% correct.

It's almost funny because he said he got it from a source in the know. My source said the same thing. I don't think we have the same source tho

Upvote on the nice point. The situations are uncanny in terms of parallel. Up and comers, next generation type coaches. The only difference is Meyer coached at Notre Dame longer than Herman at Texas.

Pretty much until we though about making a hire, everyone agreed great coaches want to play the best and play in the SEC.

People, including the media, have been trolling us saying otherwise.

Being equal to Texas isn't good enough. Unless he views LSU as SUPERIOR to Texas, it doesn't matter.

The administration is going to fudge this up with their insistance on making Fisher the number one guy and going after him, I can feel it. My face will melt a la Raiders of the Lost Ark.

If lsu offers Saban money, which they can, is Texas going to pay more? This entire thing of they can pay more is silly. If they pay Herman more than Saban, then that is just dumb. Just because you have more money doesn't mean you spend more for something that isn't worth it.

The actual jobs are the same. But Austin is a much nicer city, which gives UT an edge.

That's a smart guy. It'd be nice for LSU to get someone they want for a change.

do you have any insight as to your source? Just curious. Not looking for names or exact occupation.

Ex: my source is a long time wealthy LSU booster

or something

focused on being an NFL coach soon, do we want really want him? I would rather not get him as a coach if he is only going to stay for 2 or 3 years and bolt for the NFL. Why go through all of this again so soon?

Because if he does well enough here to warrant nfl consideration, then that means we had several outstanding seasons. And that is the goal- to win championships, not to have a 10 or 15 year pretty good coach.

I think driving down the road to recruit, with little to no competition, would have to count for something.

While Austin is a nicer city, he still has to compete with ALL of the Texas schools in recruiting and LSU pulls quite a few players from Texas. At LSU he can get pretty much who he wants in Louisiana and still cherry pick Texas and Florida. He would also have a much better roster he'd be walking into at LSU that would let him contend from the get-go. And if he's just an ultra-competitive guy, then there is no more competitive division in college football than the SEC west. He might actually want to prove himself in the best division in college football and prove he can beat Saban every year. There isn't anyone close to a Nick Saban in the Big 12.

I'd argue it would be as easy if not easier to do it at LSU.

I'd like to hear that argument.
