Similar to Nick Saban when hired by LSU. Worked out I think.

Right. Because more coaches turn out to be more like Saban than not.

There aren’t many elite coaches out there… based off resumes you have Kirby, Harbaugh and Dabo… two are not happening and don’t really want Dabo… crapshoot really with anybody

Really a bad time for Saban to retire. He never got his Ryan Day like OSU or Jimbo like FSU.

Not that those guys are elite or anything, but they kept the train rolling. Jimbo was basically running the show and was elite at that time.

There are definitely some similarities, but Brian Kelly had many more years of experience

By all accounts, DeBoer is incredibly smart (both in terms of raw intelligence and in terms of football intelligence/strategy). That makes up for a lack of experience 10/10 times. Experience teaches you answers to problems that intelligence provides on its own.

Respectfully disagree. DeBoer has won everywhere he has been and he has won championships at the lower levels. He also turned around Fresno in one season and Penix was not very good before going to Washington. He would be a very legit hire and not a placeholder. And you really can't compare recruiting to Washington in the Northwest to recruiting to Alabama. There is a lot more talent in the south obviously and kids can stay close to home and compete at the highest level of college football. Not as true when you are talking about UW. NIL aside for the moment, lots of kids grow up in Alabama wanting to play for Bama their whole life. So it is completely different.

Posted this above. Might as well post it again.

DeBoer might be a genius.

His career record is 104-12. Exclude his first year with a program, and his career record is 79-4.

(When he went 11-2 in his first year at Washington, it decreased his lifetime winning percentage.)

He’s never won in the SEC but he has always been better than his competitors.
