Neither the Bama fans nor the boosters would ever give him the benefit of the doubt, for several reasons. Only 4 years in FBS. Only 2 at a power 5 school. His incoming recruiting class is ranked 36 at 24/7. he has no experience in the South. None of those are the biggest problem.

He has 2 seasons at a P5 school. In both years, the QB position was settled with a guy who finished 2nd in this year's Heisman voting and is projected to be drafted in the 1st round. DeBoer has no experience at a P5 school where the QB situation is unsettled. We've seen it with Kevin Sumlin, Charlie Strong, and Jimbo Fisher among others. They all looked great when they had their blue chip QB. When that guy left, their coaching career left with them. None was a top coach, they just had a top QB. In both his seasons at UW, DeBoer had a top QB. Bama just cannot take a chance on a guy with no years of experience without a top QB who has those other issues. The fans won't accept that.

Now do Lanning.

That would be moot; Lanning is not a candidate for the job.

He could’ve likely had the job if he wanted it

Exactly. Alot of Bama fans think Sark hung the moon and DeBoer is Harsin 2.0. It's pretty easy to compare their record side by side bc they, you know, coached at the same school.

Deboer is 3-0 against Lanning and 2-0 against Sark.

And yet our fans act like they'll jump off a roof if it's DeBoer. It takes all of 30 seconds to look up Sark's record and see he's been very mediocre as a HC.

Honestly, Dabo has built Clemson, but the same it true for him.

And Ed O later went off the rails and got fired. When DeBoer does that, it’ll be relevant.

You should compare DeBoer's career path to Brian Kelly's. I imagine they look very similar. DeBoer may not be "elite", but he is a very competent coach who has had success everywhere he's been.

There are definitely some similarities, but Brian Kelly had many more years of experience before coming to LSU (both overall and at the P5 level) and had recruited at a much higher level over those years.

The Northwest to Southeast trip worked for Harsin

Another dumbass comparing DeBoer to Harsin. Their career arcs could not be more different.

This is pretty simple, unless someone else moves in and starts stacking hardware immediately…no one is getting the benefit of the doubt.
