It is NOT Tucker. Period.
Figure if I keep saying it I'll be wrong and it won't happen. Go Tucker!

I have no clue who this guy is but I bet there are better sources on this board than he is and that isn't saying much.

And who is Steven Godfrey and how would he be in the know?
A well known and well respected sports journalist. Graduated from Ole Miss, from the state of Georgia and has many SEC connections.
I'm not a huge fan of his, but he's a pretty well known guy.

Pretty sure I was ahead of him on this.

If im woody, im offering 15m to Riley, OU will have to dig deep.
Riley is worth the extra money b/c hes young, runs a top program, risk of going anywhere else from LSU is slim. I dont think he wants to go pro.
Problem is if it becomes public, you could be over paying for others if he declines..

Coaching carousel is his specialty. Dude used to go to all the big coaching conventions, his insight is very entertaining.

Yeah, Godfrey is an a-hole but not one to just throw stuff out there. If he's putting his name on something then it is legit information that hes gotten from somebody. Whether it comes to fruition or not is another thing.

Approx 52:15 mark talking about Lincoln Riley:
"That's what Scott Woodward does. That's why he is a gangster. He is gonna steal your wife."

Money won't be the reason he'd come to LSU. Part of it, sure.
OU would match $$ but can't match other things LSU offers over OU.
* Already in SEC
* Fertile La recruiting area
* Better Program this Century

I think people overestimate the willingness of another school to match what amounts to a shocking number.
Like, $15m is insane. It's $3m more than the GOAT coach (Belichick) makes, and $6m more than the GOAT college coach.
By way of thought experiment, lets say LSU went absolutely insane and Jeff Bezos decided to fund a new coach for LSU and we offered Riley a 10 year $300m contract. OU could technically match that. There's 0 chance they would.
Now obviously that would never happen, but there's a line there somewhere of what OU can match, but wouldn't. Would they match $10m? Certainly. $12m? Probably. $15m, fully guaranteed, 10 years? I think that's by no means a sure thing.

It's the difference between being a winner or being a loser.
When was the last time OU won a NC. 1999 or 2000?

Setting a new standard for coaching salaries when they're already in the stratosphere will not have good optics and I don't think necessary to get the right coach. Eliminating or minimizing buyouts is another way it can go without resetting the salary market. Who knows but resetting the salary market seems unsustainable

I disagree. What's resetting the market is the SEC TV rights renegotiation and the upcoming playoff expansion.
I've said it before, but giving 1/3 of the $20m increased revenue from the TV rights renegotiation (on top of what we're already able and willing to pay someone like Coach O) gets you to around $15m.
Giving such a contract now is getting ahead of the market.
In 2010, Nick Saban was the highest paid FBS coach at $6m. He now makes about $10m.
Using that same "$4m increase in 10 years", guess where that puts the market in 10 years if everything stayed exactly the same?
But everything isn't staying the same. With all the shakeups to CFB right now, including the rights renegotiation, conference realignment, and playoff expansion, I think that this growth is about to rapidly accelerate. By 2025, I would bet good money there are at least 5 p5 head coaches north of $12m/year.

Did you forget the insane TV contract the SEC is going to have in a few years?
You have to get ahead of the curve.
